Job Description

Non-profit organization in Hilo is in need of a Payroll Specialist to prepare and distribute payroll, reports, and tax returns. You will also be tasked with giving information to employees regarding payroll issues so you must have great communication skills as well as one year of experience in the field of accounting. 


Addi​tional Responsibilities:


  • Maintain updated employee information for payroll processing
  • Process time records including regular, overtime, holiday, and paid time off
  • Ensure payment deductions on employee wages
  • Ensure payroll and tax deposits are made by deadlines
  • Maintain payroll ledger to general ledger reconciliation of associated payroll accounts
  • Communicate company policies and procedures to new employees
  • Assist employees with completing new hire documents
  • Maintain knowledge of State and Federal regulations governing payroll
  • Provide back-up assistance for the front desk as needed


Required Education and Qualifications:


  • Minimum one year of verifiable experience in accounting
  • Effective written and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to adhere to strict confidentiality standards
  • Ability to work well under minimal supervision
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Word and Excel
  • Valid driver's license
