Foodborne Disease Surveillance & Response Coordinator

 

$49,000 - $53,000 per year, commensurate w/ training and experience

 

Exempt, non-civil service appointment.  This position is responsible for planning, organizing, and perform the most complex surveillance,  investigational and educational epidemiologic activities related to foodborne disease surveillance and control throughout Hawaii; providing information and consultation to stakeholders; lead a team of epidemiologic investigators, sanitarians, laboratorians, and others in important foodborne disease prevention and response measures; and facilitates the implementation state of the art technology to enhance statewide response capacity for food-related illness.

 

The applicant must have strong analytic skills, including the ability to integrate data from different sources for analyses, as well as written and verbal communication skills.

 

 

Minimum Qualification(s)

 

EDUCATION:    Graduation from an accredited college or university with the minimum of a bachelor's degree.  Successful completion of course work demonstrating an aptitude for, and a basic knowledge of the biological sciences.  Prior training in epidemiology and environmental health is highly desirable because they form the foundation for understanding the technical aspects of foodborne disease control and prevention. 

 

SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE:  One and one-half years of progressively responsible professional work experience that required the knowledge and application of the principles, practices, methods and techniques used in the identification, prevention and control of foodborne diseases.

 

SUBSTITUTIONS ALLOWED:  Possession of a master's degree from an accredited college or university with a major in biological science, Public Health or related area may be substituted for one-half year of Specialized Experience.

 

Possession of a master's degree from an accredited college or university with a major in Epidemiology may be substituted for one year of Specialized Experience.

 

LICENSE:  Possession of a valid driver’s license is preferred.
