Job Description

 

POSITION SUMMARY:

Responsible for the efficient operation of the Grounds Maintenance Training Program to include completion of contract work, pre-vocational training for new staff, work evaluation and training staff with life challenges; assist in the field orientation, supervision, and training of all assigned personnel.  Thoroughly understands and supports Lanakila’s goals and objectives.  Set a good example for staff by following and abiding by company and departmental policies and procedures (e.g. punctuality, good attendance, having a mature and professional attitude, etc.).  Complete required documentation as needed and submit to the department Manager.

 

 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:

 

ORIENTATION, SUPERVISION AND TRAINING

A.    May assist in the orientation of new staff to Lanakila’s Grounds Training program.  Follows a training curriculum to assist and train new staff to develop their skills in various grounds maintenance tasks.

B.    Reports to the Manager if staff counseling is required.

C.   Demonstrate the organization’s values of teamwork, excellence, achievement and motivation in all personal interactions.


GROUNDS MAINTENANCE

A.    Thoroughly understands all specifications and requirements in the contracts, and is able to accomplish all work required insuring that contract's quality standards and schedules are met.  Duties include maintenance of large areas by string trimming, edging, leaf blowing, hedge trimming, mowing, weed pulling, clearing debris, and irrigation.  Able to operate string trimmers, mowers, hedge trimmers, leaf blowers, and other manual and powered grounds maintenance and other general use equipment.  May be required to repair irrigation lines and heads. 

B.    Controls and maintains inventories of basic supplies, tools and equipment to insure that services are provided according to the contract.  Informs the Grounds Department Manager when tools and supplies are needed and when equipment maintenance /repairs are required.  Required to maintain cleanliness of work area and company vehicles and equipment.

C.   Assigns subordinates where needed or requests necessary manpower to fulfill work demands.  Plans, organizes and schedules work required to support contract requirements.  Maintains equipment maintenance/repair records.  May be required to work on weekends or holidays when necessary.

 

 

MAINTENANCE AND SAFEGUARDS OF AREAS, SUPPLIES, TOOLS AND EQUIPMENT

A.    Responsible for the daily control of supplies, tools and equipment assigned to the contract.  Sets up proper safeguards and follow-up procedures to ensure the security of all equipment, tools and supplies. 

B.    Inspects and regularly services all equipment used and keeps all tools and equipment secured in their proper places after each workday.  Maintains an inventory of all tools and equipment.

C.   Is responsible for proper security, care and service of the assigned vehicle.  Promptly reports accidents or incidents verbally to the Manager and prepares necessary reports and submits them to the Manager within 24 hours of any accident/incident.

1.    Is responsible for safeguarding the key for the vehicle.  Insures that the vehicle is properly parked and secured.

2.    Is responsible for daily safety inspection, vehicle mileage and expense records and reports required for the assigned vehicle.  Submits records and reports to the Manager on the required due dates.

D.   Assists in planning general cleaning at regular intervals.

 

SAFETY AND SECURITY

A.    Knows or acquires orientation/training on how to deal with staff physical or mental emergencies.

B.    Ensures a safe work environment through regular safety meetings and site safety inspections.  Maintains records of safety meeting minutes and site safety inspections.

C.   Maintains first aid kits in the work areas and assigned vehicle.  Insures everyone knows the location.

D.   Responsible for reporting of accidents/injuries to the Manager immediately after staff has been taken care of.  Responsible for submitting written incident report to site Manager.

OTHER DUTIES:

A.    Performs other duties as required.

B.    Attends training sessions/classes as mandated by organizational policy/goals and/or as recommended by Manager, Director or President.

 

 

 

MINIMUM QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS:

 

Education/Experience:​

 

  1. High school graduate preferred with minimum one (1) years of grounds maintenance work experience and having specific trade skills.

 

Skills/Knowledge/Abilities:

 

  1. Must be able to operate various grounds maintenance equipment.

  2. Must be able to learn to properly train staff according to the training curriculum.

  3. Experience with Word, Excel and Outlook

  4. Able to read, write and interpret documents written in English

  5. Valid driver license and clean driving abstract required.

  6. Prior supervisory experience desirable.
