Job Description

IT Network Specialist

Directly responsible for:

• Troubleshooting users’ (employees’) inquiries on hardware issues, and standard software (e.g., Microsoft Office) issues.

• Troubleshooting customers’ inquiries on hardware issues.

• Workstation (desktop) PC and phone setup, configuration, installation, and maintenance;

• Installation, configuration and maintenance of network systems both hardware and software as well as the interfaces with other systems including coordinating with vendors;

 

The following are as directed by the IT Network Supervisor:

• Installation, configuration and maintenance of phone and conferencing systems both hardware and software as well as the interfaces with other systems including coordinating with vendors;

• Server setup, configuration, installation, and maintenance, including but not limited to: domain controllers, file servers, email servers, gateways (e.g., email gateways), remote access servers (e.g., terminal servers), security servers, backup services, network monitoring servers;

• Assist the Security Officer in keeping the network infrastructure secure from both internal and external risks including performing network scanning and monitoring to locate potential risk factors as well as keeping systems at current patch levels to minimize exposures;

• Serve on the Computer Security Incident Response Team (CSIRT) to respond to security incidents as they are detected. 

 

TYPICAL WORKING CONDITIONS: 

Office based position; subject to inside environmental conditions (temperature fluctuations of air-conditioned office), not substantially subjected to adverse external environmental conditions. 

Subject to noise from various types of office equipment, including but not limited to: typewriters, copy machines, faxes, printers and computers.  May be exposed to chemicals and/or fumes (e.g. copy toner or cleaning fluid).

 

MENTAL, PHYSICAL AND COMMUNICATION DEMANDS:

1. Ability to multitask and function in a high volume/busy environment. Ability to work calmly under pressure and appropriately plan, prioritize, organize and carry out tasks and responsibilities.

2. Essential: sitting, finger dexterity, hearing, speaking and hearing.

3. Occasional: standing, walking, stooping/bending, kneeling, crawling, climbing stairs, crouching/squatting, twisting body, lifting usual amount of 20 pounds, pushing/pulling usual amount of 20 pounds, carrying usual amount of 20 pounds.

4. Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, computer manuals, technical procedures, and governmental regulations.

5. Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals.

6. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of customers or employees of the company.

7. Ability and willingness to learn new things, adapt to a changing environment and deal with various personalities.

8. Ability to communicate effectively

9. Ability to work as a part of a team.

 

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

 

A. EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE:

1. Associate's degree (A.A.) or equivalent from two-year college or technical school: or six months to one year related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience

2. Four years of college in Network-related computer studies or equivalent.

3. Two years experience with PCs and LAN hardware and software; UNIX experience is desirable.

4. One year experience with network routers, switches and gateways.

5. Health care background is preferred.

6. Knowledge of computer technology as related to telecommunications, servers, desktops, personal computers, and networks is required.

7. Knowledge of TCP/IP networking. Cisco experience is preferred.

8. Knowledge of Windows Server administration.

9. Knowledge of Microsoft Office application software.

10. Knowledge of configuration of Telecom (phone) systems.

 

B. LANGUAGE SKILLS:

1. Ability to read, analyze and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations.

2. Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals.

3. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers, and the general public.

 

C. MATHEMATICAL SKILLS:

1. Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, interest, commissions, proportions, percentages, area, circumference, and volume.

2. Ability to apply concepts of basic algebra and geometry.

 

D. REASONING ABILITY:

1. Ability to apply principles of logical or scientific thinking to a wide range of intellectual and practical problems.

2. Ability to deal with nonverbal symbolism (formulas, scientific equations, graphs, musical notes, etc.) in its most difficult phases.

3. Ability to deal with a variety of abstract and concrete variables.

 

E. OTHER SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

1. Interpersonal skills with demonstrated ability to work in a team atmosphere required.

2. Ability to handle multiple projects with varying priorities and time lines simultaneously.

3. Knowledge of networking protocols: ICMP, Telnet, FTP, VPN, SMTP, SNMP, SSL, TLS, HTTP, HTTPS, VoIP.

4. Knowledge of security concepts as it relates to systems and networking, especially those noted in the HIPAA and related regulations, and principles of AAA (Authentication, Authorization, and Accounting) including two-factor authentication, intrusion detection, and CIA (confidentiality, integrity, and availability)
