Job Description

Typical duties include but are not limited to:

Underwriting Trainee

  • Learn Excess & Surplus (E&S) underwriting fundamentals from processes and systems
  • Responsible for receiving submissions from agencies
  • Correspond with various surplus lines brokers & carriers to bind coverage for difficult to place risk
  • Track new business, mid-term endorsements and renewals within authority
  • Issue invoices for E&S policies and respond to accounting questions

 

Associate Underwriter

  • Handle new and renewal underwriting activities for multiple lines of commercial and personal business within FiRMS, primarily Flood, Excess Flood & Joint Underwriting Program JUP)
  • Work in support of underwriters on larger, more complex applications in all assigned lines such as AOAO flood applications and Fleet JUP applications
  • Assist in development of procedures in automation of FiRMS activities

 

Underwriter

  • Process, validate, and underwrite renewals
  • Rate, quote, and issue renewal policies
  • Back up underwriter for JUP
Senior Underwriter
  • Process, validate, and underwriter renewals
  • Rate, quote, and issue renewal policies
  • Back up underwriter for JUP
  • Subject Matter Expert (SME) for process improvement projects

 

Qualifications / Experience:

Underwriting Trainee

  • 4 year college degree or equivalent
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, and Outlook)
  • Problem-solving skills 
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Hawaii Driver's License with clean abstract

 

Associate Underwriter (along with above qualifications)

  • 1-2 years of related work experience
  • Familiarity with Vision and Ice systems

 

Underwriter (along with above qualifications)

  • 3-5 years of related work experience
  • Working knowledge of Vision and Ice systems

Senior Underwriter

  • 5+ years of multi-line underwriting experience with emphasis in commercial lines

 

Additional Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience with Applied Vision software
  • Hawaii Producers license or ability to obtain within 3 months of hire

 

Special Circumstances: 

  • May require occasional overtime
  • May require occasional travel to neighbor islands on short notice
