Job Description

 

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES:

 

The Volunteer Coordinator develops short and long-range planning activities to create and implement volunteer program goals, objectives, policies and procedures.  This position is responsible for the efficient operation of the Meals on Wheels volunteer program including the recruitment and retention, orientation, and ongoing training of volunteers. 

 

 

 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:

 

  1. Plans, designs, and coordinates outreach activities for the purpose of recruiting group, company, and individual volunteers and community support.
  2. Researches and implements updated methods to promote volunteerism.
  3. Screen and interview volunteers.
  4. Work with area managers or supervisors to select, place, evaluate and terminate volunteers.
  5. Approves applicants to volunteer by reviewing volunteer requirements such as background and reference checks.
  6. Issue and track volunteer ID badges and manage volunteer files to include required reference and background checks.
  7. Responsible for the protection of privacy and confidentiality of records and files.
  8. Develops, maintains and conducts volunteer orientation.
  9. Develops and conducts periodic ongoing volunteer training.
  10. Responsible for communicating volunteer responsibilities to include schedule, duties and responsibilities and any necessary changes.
  11. Plans and maintains an ongoing cost effective volunteer recognition program.
  12. Organizes regular volunteer appreciation activities and extends appropriate and timely thanks/benefits.
  13. Provides training to Lanakila staff on working with volunteers.

 

 

 

OTHER DUTIES:

 

  1. Attends staff meetings, relevant workshops and trainings.
  2. Performs other related duties to achieve company and program goals and objectives.

 

 

 

 

SUPERVISORY DUTIES:


 

  1. Takes leadership in creating a healthful and respectful environment for staff and volunteers.
  2. Assists in the recruitment, selection, orientation, supervision and evaluation of the Volunteer Assistant; Prepares yearly performance evaluations for all assigned subordinates.
  3. Provides oversight, support and coaching to staff; promotes and models continuous learning and professional development.
  4. Ensures accurate interpretation and implementation of policies and procedures.

 

MINIMUM QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS:

 

 

 

Education/Experience

 

  1. Bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution in Business Administration or related field preferred. Work experience in volunteer management in human service agency or related field may be substituted on a year-to-year basis for the education requirement.
  2. One year of work experience in a community-based program dealing with the elderly and/or disabled preferred.

 

 

 

Skills/Knowledge

 

  1. Planning, organizational, and training skills.
  2. Public speaking skills.
  3. Computer skills word, excel graphics, desktop publishing, web page or other comparable computer programs.
  4. Knowledgeable of community resources and effective utilization of such resources.
  5. Valid driver’s license, access to an insured vehicle and clean driver’s abstract required.
  6. Must have current TB Clearance (valid within one year).
  7. Must be able to pass criminal background check.
