Regular, Part-Time to Full-Time (70-100% FTE), Limited-Term (not to exceed two (2) years in duration from date of hire), RCUH Non-Civil Service position with the PacificCooperativeStudiesUnit(PCSU),EastMauiWatershedPartnership(EMWP),locatedinMakawao,Maui.  Continuation of employment is dependent upon program/operational needs, satisfactory work performance, availability of funds, and compliance with applicable Federal/State laws. 

 

MONTHLY SALARY RANGE:  $3,175.20 - $5,200/Mon (@70-100% FTE). 

 

DUTIES:  Develops and implements public outreach and education activities that increase awareness and support for watershed protection, native ecosystems and EMWP management activities.  WorkscloselywithEMWPProgramManager,topromoteEMWPnaturalresourceobjectives through public education, community engagement, and communications.InteractswithEMWPlandowners,schools,communityorganizations,volunteers, media, civic leaders,andlocalhunting and ranching community. Assistsinthepreparationofreports,andpreparespublications,digital/social media content and otherpublicoutreachdocuments.Developscontentandcurriculumforclassroompresentationsonnaturalresourcemanagementandwatershedprotectionprograms.  Drivesprojectvehiclestotransportstaff. 

 

PRIMARY QUALIFICATIONS:

 

EDUCATION

Bachelor’sDegreefromanaccreditedfour(4)yearcollegeor university. (High School Diploma or G.E.D. equivalent and at least three (3) years of professional experience in marketing or communications field may substitute for a Bachelor’s Degree.).

EXPERIENCE

Onetothree(1-3)yearsofexperienceinanactiveresearch, resourcemanagementprogram, or in communications or education aimed atprotection ofHawai‘i’s natural resources. Experience maintaining websites using WordPress or similar content management systems.  

KNOWLEDGE

KnowledgeofHawaiianbiotaandthreatsfromincipientalienplantandanimalinvasionsinHawai‘i.Knowledgeofbasicmethodstodocument a naturalresource-relatedproject. Knowledge of the Hawaiian community, economy and politics. Familiarity with graphic design, digital photography, and photo editing software.

ABILITIES & SKILLS

Mustbedependable,flexible,andattentive todetails.Musthavegoodorganizationalandtimemanagementskillsfortimelycompletionofresponsibilities.Must have goodinterpersonalskillsandabilitycommunicateclearlyandeffectively,bothorallyandinwriting.Proficient with word processing, presentation, and spreadsheet software. Mustpossess avaliddriver’s license(andif useofpersonal vehicleonthejobisrequired,mustalsohavevalidpersonaldriver’sinsuranceequivalenttoHawai‘i’sNo-FaultDriver’sInsurance)andmaintainthroughoutthedurationof employment. PostOffer/EmploymentConditions:Mustbeabletopassapostoffercriminalbackgroundcheck.Mustbeabletocompletebasichelicoptersafetycoursewithintwelve(12) monthsof hire. Must possess the American Red Cross Certification in First Aid/CPR (or be able to obtain the certificate following the training provided within twelve (12) months from date of hire) and maintain throughout duration of employment.

PHYSICAL/MEDICAL DEMANDS

Mustbeabletohikeonuneventerraininremoteareas.  Mustnotbe acrophobic (afraidof heights).

SECONDARY QUALIFICATIONS:    

 

FamiliarwithbiologicalprinciplesandresourcespertainingtoHawaiianecosystemsandalien/invasivespecies.FamiliarwithHawaiianprotocols,culturalvaluesandtraditionsastheyrelatetoconservationinHawai‘i.Stronggraphicdesignaestheticandskills.Experienceworking inanofficeto support andpromote biological field activities.
