PROGRAM SPECIALIST (SUBSTANCE ABUSE) IV

$4,692 - $5,712 per month (SR-22)

Salary commensurate with training and experience

JOB DUTIES:  This position is located in the Prevention Branch (PB) of the Alcohol and Drug Abuse Division (ADAD), Department of Health.  This position serves as a statewide substance abuse prevention/early intervention program development and coordination specialist providing recommendations and actively participating in the development of the State substance abuse prevention plan and in the development, implementation, and evaluation of all state and federally funded substance abuse and prevention and early intervention related programs and activities throughout the state.

 

MINIMUM QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS:  To qualify, you must meet all of the following requirements.  Please note that unless specifically indicated, the required education and experience may not be gained concurrently.  In addition, qualifying work experience is credited based on a 40-hour workweek.

 

1.      Education Requirement:  Graduation from an accredited four (4) year college or university with a bachelor’s degree in sociology, social work, psychology, public health or other related major.

 

2.      Experience Requirement:  1-1/2 years progressively responsible general experience in social work, public health or other related fields which required knowledge of current social and economic conditions, community organizations and the services and/or programs they offer to the community relative to alcohol and drugs, the prevention of substance abuse and the treatment and rehabilitation of substance abusers.

 

1 year progressively responsible specialized experience which demonstrated the ability to conduct studies and analyses of programs or projects through active participation in the planning, coordination, development and/or evaluation of programs and/or program activities relative to alcohol and drugs, the prevention of substance abuse and the treatment and rehabilitation of substance abusers.  This experience must have been equivalent and rehabilitation of substance abusers.  This experience must have been equivalent in scope and complexity to that of the next lower level in this series.

 

3.      Substitutions Allowed:  A master’s degree or successful completion of thirty (30) graduate semester credit hours of its equivalent in sociology, social work, psychology, public health or other related field from an accredited college or university may be substituted for one (1) year of Specialized Experience.

 

Successful completion of all requirements for a Ph.D., in the above described fields from an accredited college or university may be substituted for two (2) years of the Specialized Experience requirement.
