Job Description

Hi`ipaka LLC, Waimea Valley on the North Shore of Oahu is seeking a Horticultural Field Supervisor to assist in the cultivation, out-planting, weed control, tree & garden maintenance, and inspection of the plant collections & their environment to maintain a world class standard for our botanical gardens. This person supervises and trains workers to perform duties for the preservation of the botanical gardens and conservation of Waimea’s unique plant collections. The field supervisor will work hands-on alongside gardeners and all inputs be entered and tracked in the NRDS database daily.

Position Requirements:
Must be able to read site maps.

Must be able to apply pesticides appropriately and manage pest accordingly.

Must be familiar and understand the need for inventory control, labeling and database systems for botanical collections.

Must be knowledgeable regarding the cultivation and care of botanical collections, including selection, planting and maintenance.

Must be able to assist with strategic planning, budgeting and project management.

Must be people-oriented and able to work well with a diverse workforce.

Must be organized and self-starter. 

Must exercise independent judgment to prioritize projects and respond to situations as they arise without direct supervision.

Must have good oral and written communication skills.

Must project a professional demeanor.

Ability to drive and operate heavy equipment such as a dump truck, tractor or backhoe is preferred.


Educational Requirements:
Must have a Bachelor's degree in horticulture or a related field (or 6 years equivalent work experience in the horticultural field) and at least 3 years of management work experience with a focus on supervising a diverse workforce in the horticulture field is required.

This is a full time position and regular attendance on a daily basis is required. Waimea Valley is a seven day a week operation and some night and weekend work is required.
