SBDC SENIOR BUSINESS ADVISOR (HAWAI‘I ISLAND)​- ID# 222414.​

Regular Full Time, RCUH Non-Civil Service position with the Hawai‘i Small Business Development Center (SBDC) Network, East Hawai‘i Center, located on the Island of Hawai‘i. Continuation of employment is dependent upon program/operational needs, satisfactory work performance, and availability of funds.

MINIMUM MONTHLY SALARY:  $4,051/Mon.

DUTIES:  Provides small business clients on Hawai‘i Island with counseling, training, education, and other specialized services in accordance with an annual Hawai‘i SBDC Network Action Plan, which is based upon the State SBDC Strategic Plan and is negotiated annually with the State Director.  Meets Hawai‘i SBDC Network objectives, goals, and reporting requirements for counseling, training, and other duties. Assists State Director in the acquisition, development, retention, and oversight of SBDC consultants, volunteers, and interns at the East Hawai‘i Center.  Engages in advocacy for small business interests and community development by serving on boards, committees, task forces, and other public/private-sector, community groups in Hilo and at the state level. Develops materials and conducts training sessions for small business clients. As part of the Hawai‘i SBDC Network's quality improvement program, engages in a wide variety of professional development in order to maintain credentials and professional knowledge (e.g., attends conferences, meetings, seminars, training events, and workshops). Performs administrative duties in conformance with various governmental laws, directives, regulations, policies, and Hawai‘i SBDC Network reporting requirements. Drives to conduct public relations and outreach activities on Hawai‘i Island, and to attend required professional staff meetings.  

PRIMARY QUALIFICATIONS:

EDUCATION/TRAINING

Master’s Degree from an accredited college or university in Business or related field. (Bachelor's Degree from an accredited four (4) year college or university with at least five (5) years of business development or consulting experience may substitute for Master’s Degree from an accredited college or university in Business or related field.).

EXPERIENCE

Two to four (2-4) years of experience in business assistance, small business management, or business or managerial consulting.

KNOWLEDGE

Knowledge of the principles and requirements of starting and operating a successful small business in Hawai‘i. Knowledge of business conditions in Hawai‘i.  Knowledge of the business counseling and consulting process, and business financing alternatives.

ABILITIES & SKILLS

Teaching, training, and public speaking skills. Excellent verbal and written communication skills, including how to write high quality business plans. Personal computer ability, including spreadsheet, word processing, and data management applications. Ability to quickly obtain knowledge of the principles of starting and operating a successful small business in Hawai‘i. Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively and effectively with co-workers and supervisors, and people in the private business and public education sectors.  Strong financial analysis skills are necessary to effectively work with entrepreneurs and small business owners. Ability to develop an effective professional network in the business financing and banking communities.  Must possess a valid driver's license (and if use of personal vehicle on the job is required, must also have valid personal driver’s insurance equivalent to Hawai‘i’s No-Fault Driver’s Insurance) and maintain throughout the duration of employment.

POLICY/REGULATORY REQUIREMENT

SECONDARY QUALIFICATIONS:

Previous ownership/management of a small business with significant sales.  Experience as a business development specialist in a Small Business Development Center or similar assistance program.  Experience in working effectively within a multi-ethnic, multi-cultural population.
