Job Description

Primary Purpose

Under the supervision of Research Manager, or other designee: maintenance and expansion of current research facilities, including plumbing and carpentry.  Secondary duties may include maintenance of fish or algae, and diligent data collection.  Opportunities for report writing and/or grant writing if interest.

 

Responsibilities and Duties (work site Big Island Hawaii - Kona)

  • Construction: Modifying or installing land-based tanks with flow-through seawater and drainage.  Includes digging, plumbing, and wiring.  Building wooden decks.  Fiberglass experience a plus.
  • Maintenance: Cleaning tanks, maintaining filters, tool maintenance.
  • Animal & Plant husbandry :: As needed : feeding fish/algae; monitoring tank conditions; assisting in live feeds production, larval rearing, or sporulation.
  • Data collection and entry: The employee will be responsible for diligent record-keeping and organization when participating in duties pertaining to trials.
  • Writing: Opportunity to contribute to reporting and grant writing if interested.
  • Physical Abilities: Able to work in a hot, humid env with over 75% exposure to direct sunlight.  Frequent bending, stooping, squatting, lifting/carrying equipment, use of ladders.

 

 

Work Hours (loacation NELHA - Hawaii Island,  Kona area on site):

Work 40 hours per week. Part-time possible for internship.  Work hours defined by management.  Intern working between hours of 8-4 Mon-Fri.

Reliable transportation and valid drivers license required.
