Job Description

Aloha Carbon is currently seeking candidates for an Environmental Impact Intern

·         Period:  Immediate – Dec 29, with follow-on work for the right candidate

·         Level of effort:  Up to full time (40 hours per week)

·         Pay:  Hourly pay at market rate plus fringe benefits

·         Title:  Environmental Impact Analyst


This analyst will help this sustainability innovation company to understand, analyze, and communicate the cost and benefit of innovations to reduce the current environmental impact of industrial businesses in Hawaii.  The work involves performing environmental and technical analyses of operations, supply chains, waste streams, logistics, and lines of business for clients in heavy industry to help them reduce waste and energy consumption, improve environmental footprint, and reduce greenhouse gas lifecycle intensity.  This support involves performing technical and market background research, taking field samples, tracking and analyzing data, evaluating potential innovations against state and federal environmental regulations for permitting feasibility studies, and writing environmental impact and technical summaries and reports for business and technical audiences. 


Aloha Carbon is a project under Simonpietri Enterprises LLC, a Kailua, Hawaii-based small business focused on sustainable technology and business strategy, investment, research and development, and operational improvement for heavy industry.  The company provides technical and economic analyses, supply chain development and innovation project management services, clean technology commercialization, and greenhouse gas and other sustainability criteria evaluations for its clients.  The company is one of the U.S. leaders in renewable jet fuel production methods, and associated supply chain development and innovation.  Current clients include fuel, energy, waste, logistics, information technology services, and bioeconomy companies in the U.S., Canada, and Australia. 



·         Strong personal interest in sustainability, renewable fuels and energy, and greenhouse gas reduction actions

·         Familiarity with Microsoft Office products, particularly Excel

·         Written and oral communication skills

·         Spreadsheet modeling and calculation skills

·         Hawaii resident


Additional desired qualifications: 

·         Undergraduate or graduate degree in a science, technology, engineering, or math

·         Environmental impact statement/environmental assessment analyses

·         Comfort in face-to-face community engagement and idea development situations

·         Visual presentation and infographic development

·         Port/Airline/Energy/Waste facility management and operation

·         U.S. military service, especially in logistics, facilities management, intelligence, or public affairs

·         Project Management Professional (PMP) or Leadership in Energy and Efficient Design (LEED)

·         Familiarity with GREET, OPGEE, ASPEN, or ArcGIS models and data sets
