Kauai Community Science Center

Position Title: KCSC Event Planner Intern

Status: Part-time or Full-time

 

Primary Purpose: To support event planning and execution for Kauai Community Science Center. KCSC promotes STEAM, Science, Technology, Engineering, Art & culture and Math programming and the KCSC Event Planner Intern will support the development and execution of our events and activities around the community.

 

Essential Functions:

·       Assist with developing and executing live, STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Art & Culture and Math) hands-on learning events for participants of all ages.

·       Communicate with people and address questions as they arise.

·       Support all aspects of event planning for the KCSC HOTspot, a mobile WIFI / STEAM programming resource.

·       Being part of a team to develop this new initiative to meet needs in the community among students, teachers and parents.

·       Collaborate with staff and partner organizations to develop and support STEAM projects as well as the dissemination of other related information and resources from non-STEAM partner organizations.

·       Build a KCSC event planning framework for the organization to facilitate event planning and execution into the future.

·       May need to Drive KCSC HOTspot vehicle, a Ford Transit Cargo Van

 

Working Conditions:

Work will be in an office environment and also outside in association with the KCSC HOTspot a mobile WIFI / STEAM education resource. Work may also involve planning for participating in community events, developing week-long events for students and teachers and planning events with students at schools.

 

Types of Events:

KCSC HOTspot would be one component associated with event planning in the community. We also plan to hold events for teachers like professional development and other opportunities that would require event planning and execution skills. We also hope to create specific clubs around 3D printing, coding, robotics and other making skills that would also be additional resources for KCSC community events.

 

Shift Hours:

Exact shift times are to be determined, and we are open to accommodating flexible schedules as much as possible. We may have some events that are on the weekends or in the evening hours, from 5pm – 9pm.

There is flexibility to work remotely.

·       Ability to work with students across a wide age spectrum as well as teachers and professionals across a diverse spectrum.

·       As a small organization you may be asked to support other activities outside of your normal scope of activities to support the needs of the organization

·       Requires maintaining reliable work attendance.

 

Skills / Knowledge:

  • Experience with event planning and execution of both large and small events.
  • Willingness to work with KCSC staff as well as volunteers, students, teachers and professionals that are fundamental to the KCSC Organization.  
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Strong organizational skills.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Access to a reliable vehicle or method of transportation.
  • Experience working with K-12 students, teachers, families and the elderly.
  • Technology literate with the ability to use virtual meeting platforms and online programs.
  • Be at least 18 years old on their first day of service.
  • Have a valid Hawaii Drivers License.
  • Be able to provide documentation of their right to work in the United States.
  • Have a high school diploma or high school equivalency.
  • Applicants must meet the standards of the State of Hawaii background check requirements which includes sex offender registry check, state criminal history registry check, and FBI fingerprint-based check.
