Job Summary

We are seeking a dedicated and compassionate Accounting Clerk to join our team in our historic nonprofit organization. Founded in 1844, O'ahu Cemetery is Hawaii's oldest public cemetery. Spanning 18 acres, it is the final resting place for more than 30,000 people including many notable people. The Accounting Clerk is responsible for supporting the day-to-day accounting functions of Oahu Cemetery Association, including accounts payable, accounts receivable, and general ledger maintenance. The ideal candidate is organized, detail-oriented, reliable, and capable of handling sensitive financial and client information with professionalism and discretion.

Responsibilities

  • Process and record daily financial transactions
  • Prepare and reconcile invoices for services such as cemetery plots, cremations, and funerals
  • Handle accounts payable and accounts receivable
  • Maintain accurate and organized financial records
  • Assist with audits and reporting
  • Respond to client billing inquiries with professionalism and discretion
  • Work closely with the executive team
  • Assist with other duties as assigned by CEO & CFO

Qualifications

Required:

  • High school diploma or GED
  • 2+ years of experience in accounting, bookkeeping, or office administration
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and accounting software (e.g., QuickBooks)
  • Strong attention to detail and accuracy
  • Ability to handle sensitive information with confidentiality
  • Good communication and organizational skills

Preferred:

  • Associate’s degree in Accounting or related field
  • Experience in a funeral, healthcare, or similar service industry
  • Familiarity with pre-need and at-need contracts

Work Environment & Schedule

 

  • Quiet, respectful, and professional setting focused on serving families with compassion
  • Monday to Friday, 8:00 AM – 5:00 PM
