Animal Protection Officer 1 (APO1)

This exciting role offers the opportunity to be on the front lines of animal protection, ensuring the safety and well-being of our furry, feathered, and shelled friends.
Responsibilities:
- Respond to calls and complaints regarding animal welfare, cruelty, and neglect
- Investigate reports of animal abuse and gather evidence for potential legal action
- Rescue animals from dangerous or abusive situations
- Educate the public on proper animal care, local ordinances, and responsible pet ownership
- Assist in the capture and safe transport of stray, injured, or dangerous animals
- Maintain accurate records and prepare detailed reports on investigations and incidents
- Collaborate with local law enforcement, veterinarians, and animal welfare organizations
- Participate in community outreach programs and events to promote animal welfare
Requirements:
- High school diploma or equivalent
- Valid driver's license with a clean driving record
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills
- Physical ability to handle and restrain animals of various sizes
- Emotional resilience to deal with challenging and sometimes distressing situations
- Ability to work flexible hours based on operational requirements, including weekends, and holidays
- Basic computer skills for record-keeping and report writing
- Compassion for animals and a commitment to their welfare
- Knowledge of animal behavior and handling techniques (preferred)
- Meet the criteria for Honolulu Police Department deputization
