ASSISTANT DIRECTOR OF FAITH FORMATION
Job Description (Part-Time / Non-Exempt – Up to 20 Hours per Week)
Position Summary
The Assistant Director of Faith Formation supports the mission and ministry of St. Anthony of Padua Catholic Church by assisting in the coordination and implementation of all faith formation programs for children, youth, adults, and families.Working closely under the supervision of the Director of Faith Formation and Family Life, this position helps to plan, organize, and lead programs that foster spiritual growth, discipleship, and active participation in the life of the Church. The Assistant Director also assists with catechist support, sacramental preparation, family faith formation sessions, and communication with families and volunteers.This is a part-time, hourly, non-exempt position requiring flexibility for evening and weekend work.
- Program Support and Coordination
- Assist in planning, coordinating, and facilitating Family Faith Formation sessions, including setup, hospitality, attendance, and follow-up communication.• Support program logistics for sacramental preparation (Baptism, First Reconciliation, First Communion, Confirmation, RCIA/OCIA).• Help organize lesson materials, activity supplies, and catechetical resources for all age levels.• Maintain accurate attendance and sacramental records as directed.• Provide administrative and logistical support for parish-wide faith formation events, retreats, and workshops.
- Catechist and Volunteer Support
- Assist the Director in recruiting, training, and supporting catechists and volunteers.• Prepare and distribute lesson plans, materials, and resources for each session.• Help facilitate small group discussions and faith-sharing activities.• Provide hospitality and help foster community among families, volunteers, and participants.
III. Communication and Administration
- Assist with family and parish communication through email, bulletin, and digital platforms (e.g., Flocknote, Canva flyers, or parish website).• Manage participant registration, permission forms, and data entry in coordination with the parish office.• Support the development and distribution of the Faith Formation calendar, newsletters, and parent handouts.• Provide front-line communication to families and visitors during Faith Formation events and office hours.
- Faith Formation Leadership and Spiritual Life
- Serve as a visible, faith-filled witness to the Gospel and Catholic teaching.• Assist in leading prayer, liturgical celebrations, and special family faith gatherings.• Encourage participation in parish life, Sunday Mass, and service opportunities.• Collaborate with parish ministries to promote integrated faith formation experiences for all ages.
- Safe Environment and Compliance
- Support compliance with the Diocese of Honolulu Safe Environment Program, ensuring all catechists and volunteers have completed VIRTUS training and background checks.• Help monitor classroom safety and maintain appropriate supervision ratios.• Report any concerns or incidents to the Director immediately.
Qualifications
- Practicing Catholic in good standing, committed to the mission and teachings of the Church.• High school diploma required; college coursework in theology, education, or pastoral ministry preferred.• Prior experience in parish ministry, youth ministry, or faith formation strongly preferred.• Strong interpersonal, organizational, and communication skills.• Proficient with Microsoft Office, Google Workspace, and digital communication tools.• Ability to work collaboratively with staff, volunteers, and families in a pastoral setting.• Must be able to work evenings and weekends as required for parish programs and liturgical events.
Work Hours
Part-time, hourly position (up to 20 hours per week). Schedule to include regular office hours and required evenings/weekends for sessions and events.
