The Position:

This is a full-time position with both office and fieldwork. You must reside in Hawaii - preferably Oahu or Maui. Fieldwork typically takes place from late spring to late fall, but can occur year round. Fieldwork may occur over a varying number of days, ranging from a single day to multiple days, and may include overnight stays.

Duties may include:

  • Conducting surveys to monitor and identify Hawaiian seabirds by sight and sound.
  • Serving as Project Manager, Assistant Project Manager, and/or Lead monitor on projects.
  • Performing surveys for various flora and fauna.
  • Performing high-quality, precise work using scientific protocols.
  • Performing other environmental surveys.
  • Working together with staff and project stakeholders.
  • Preparing technical reports, proposals, and budgets.
  • Traveling for field projects, meetings, and/or training.
  • Working odd hours, including early mornings and late evenings in the field, as needed.

Who You Are:

You should have excellent communication, scientific writing, and field research skills. You must be comfortable working alone and as part of a team. 

You must have:  

B.S. or M.S. degree in the following fields: o   Wildlife Biology, Conservation Biology, Ecology, Environmental Science, Natural Resources Management, or a similar course of study. Two + seasons of Hawaiian wildlife survey experience, preferably with sea and water birds. Previous field crew leadership experience. Familiarity with state/federal environmental laws and regulations. Proficiency with Microsoft apps, data analysis, software, and tools. Strong technical writing and organizational skills. Valid driver’s license and ability to travel to remote, rugged field locations. Must be able to pass a federal background check and be authorized to work in the U.S.

 

Our ideal match also has:

  • One+ years project management experience.
  • Experience writing proposals, budgets, and technical reports.
  • Experience with Hawaiian fauna and flora species.
  • Familiarity with Hawaiian culture, language, and environmental issues.
  • First Aid and CPR certification.

Salary:

$45,500 to $55,000, depending on experience.

 

Probationary Period:

This position has a six (6) month probationary period.
