Lanakila Kitchen, its food service social enterprise, provides high‑quality food services while creating meaningful employment and job‑training opportunities for people with disabilities. The division manages contract and catering services, the Hickam Hale Aina Dining Facility, and other food‑related programs.
POSITION OVERVIEW:
The Baker is responsible for the efficient daily operation of the bakeshop, ensuring all baked goods are prepared and completed on time and according to specifications. This role supports Lanakila Pacific’s mission and values by demonstrating teamwork, professionalism, and a commitment to excellence while maintaining STAR service standards in all interactions.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Required:
- High school diploma or equivalent
- Minimum two (2) years of experience in food service, restaurant operations, or baking
- Ability to pass required clearances: TB test, criminal background check, pre‑employment drug test, and CPS/APS checks
Preferred:
- Associate degree in Food Service, Restaurant Management, Baking, or related field
- Valid driver’s license and clean driver’s abstract
ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:
Position Specific Duties:
- Prepare and bake a variety of food items following established recipes, cooking procedures, and guidelines.
- Ensure baked goods meet required quality standards, quantities, and order specifications; complete all orders in a timely manner.
- Monitor and maintain inventory of food supplies; assist with ordering as needed.
- Demonstrate proper use of ingredients, equipment, and baking techniques; contribute input to recipe development and improvements.
- Assist in kitchen operations and support meal preparation and packing for deliveries as needed.
- Maintain proper storage and handling of food and supplies to meet quality and safety standards.
- Communicate effectively with staff and departments, both verbally and in writing.
- Attend staff meetings, trainings, and workshops.
Sanitation & Equipment:
- Follow and enforce all food safety and sanitation standards, including HACCP guidelines.
- Demonstrate safe and proper use of equipment; ensure all tools and equipment are clean and in good working condition.
- Inspect equipment regularly and report any issues or deficiencies.
Other Duties:
- Follow all safety procedures and use appropriate protective equipment (e.g., gloves, hairnets).
- Adhere to established work rules, policies, procedures, and standards of conduct.
- Complete all required training and perform related duties as assigned.
WORKING CONDITIONS/HOURS:
- Full-time schedule, typically Monday–Friday, 4:00 a.m. – 12:00 p.m.; hours may vary.
- Occasional weekend or holiday work may be required to meet operational needs.
- Fast-paced kitchen environment with frequent interaction with diverse individuals.
- Exposure to heat, steam, noise, and wet or damp floors in kitchen areas.
- Exposure to temperature extremes (hot kitchen, refrigeration units, and outdoor weather conditions).
EQUIPMENT USE:
- Kitchen equipment including mixers, ovens, slicers, knives, and dishwashing systems.
- Cleaning equipment such as floor machines and pressure washers.
- Standard tools such as computers, calculators, and kitchen appliances.
MENTAL DEMANDS:
- Ability to plan, organize, and prioritize tasks while adapting to changing situations.
- Strong initiative, judgment, and ability to work independently and multitask.
- Ability to work under tight deadlines and pressure.
- Ability to communicate clearly and work effectively with diverse teams.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
- Frequent: Standing, walking, lifting/carrying up to 50 lbs, handling/pushing/pulling, stooping, kneeling, and repetitive movements.
- Occasional: Lifting over 50 lbs, climbing or balancing.
- Rare: Night work or travel-related activities.
