POSITION SUMMARY

POSITION DESCRIPTION

Under general supervision of the Purchasing AVP, maintains proper liaison with existing vendors, assisting in purchasing in support of the overall sales and inventory goals of the Company.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

1) Reviews and analyzes inventory activity to maintain adequate stock levels for assigned product lines.

2) Develops and recommends suppliers of commodity products and chemicals for sale.

3) Initiates and conducts research in buying and cost reduction opportunities for commodities.

4) Develops value analysis studies on product costs and sales trends as directed by the Purchasing AVP for Industrial, Agriculture, and Chemical products.

5) Reviews and evaluates vendor performance; keeps Purchasing AVP apprised of levels of vendor performance.

6) Works with PurchasingAVP to develop and implement plans to reduce excess inventory as highlighted by the Inventory Model.

7) Maintains and reviews record of purchases and contracts in assigned areas.

8) Supplements and backs-up functions of other Purchasing team members.

QUALIFICATIONS:

1. Minimum two year's previous purchasing experience.

2. Effective verbal and written communication skills.
3. Skilled in analysis and organization of data into comprehensible and reliable reports to use as a basis for buying.

4. Previous experience with a computerized purchasing program, and thorough working knowledge of other computer programs such as MS Word, Excel, etc.
5. Ability to comprehend price and supply trends in chemical commodity markets on the world and national scene as relates to BEI Hawaii's position.

Physical demands:

1. Ability to occasionally lift and carry up to 20 lbs.
2. Eye-hand coordination and manual dexterity.
3. Ability to drive a vehicle without any physical limitations.
