CTAHR SOCIAL ACCOUNTING MATRIX RESEARCH SPECIALIST – ID# 220181.

 

College of Tropical Agriculture and Human Resources.  Regular, Full-Time, RCUH Non-Civil Service position with the University of Hawai‘i at Mānoa (UHM), College of Tropical Agriculture and Human Resources (CTAHR), Department of Natural Resources and Environmental Management (NREM), located in Hilo, Hawai‘i.  Telework is permissible with Principal Investigator’s (PI) approval.  Continuation of employment is dependent upon program/operational needs, satisfactory work performance, availability of funds, and compliance with applicable Federal/State laws. 


MONTHLY SALARY:  Salary commensurate with qualifications. 


DUTIES: 

  • Contributes to the development of a multiregional, environmentally-extended social accounting matrix by identifying and compiling existing economic data sources. 
  • Analyzes and interprets data by applying advanced empirical quantitative modeling techniques. 
  • Contributes to two case study projects, one focused on Hawai‘i, to demonstrate effective decision-support resources for stakeholders. 
  • Writes and edits publications and presentations to summarize data, methods, results, and analysis. 
  • Performs literature reviews and synthesis on methods for the economic analysis of subnational food systems. 
  • Collaborates and works with other team members to complete research and analysis in a timely matter. 

 

PRIMARY QUALIFICATIONS:

EDUCATION/TRAINING: 

  • Master’s Degree from an accredited college or university in Economics, Agricultural Economics, Engineering, or related field. 

 

EXPERIENCE: 

  • At least two (2) years of experience with support for research projects, which includes performing literature reviews, collecting data, and building models. 
  • Experience gained through graduate positions/internships are acceptable. 

 

ABIL/KNOW/SKILLS: 

  • Strong familiarity with data management and analysis.  
  • Strong skills in scientific writing and literature review. 
  • Working knowledge of economic modeling techniques. 
  • Basic knowledge and understanding of Hawai‘i’s food and agricultural sections.  
  • Ability to use a personal computer and office software, which includes Microsoft Office (e.g., Word, Excel). 
  • Ability to use statistical, modeling, or database software. 
  • Good verbal and written communication skills. 
  • Ability to interpret, analyze, and summarize large amounts of economic information.

SECONDARY QUALIFICATIONS: 

  • Experience with national income accounting, regional economics, economic geography, mathematical programming, input-output analysis, social accounting matrix (SAM) multiplier analysis, applied general equilibrium analysis, spatial interaction modeling, material flows analysis, General Algebraic Modeling System (GAMS), programming languages (e.g., SAS), or SQL Server.
