Kaua'i Field Worker


COMPANY OVERVIEW

Pono Pacific Land Management, LLC was founded with a vision of helping Hawaiis conservation agencies and landowners. Since 2000, we have been providing specialized services to a wide variety of clients in almost every ecosystem in Hawaiʻi, primarily including:

  • Native habitat restoration and landscape maintenance
  • Invasive species eradication
  • Ungulate-proof/predator-proof fence construction
  • Predator and ungulate control
  • Trail construction & maintenance

We are currently seeking applicants for the Field Worker I position on Kauai. A Field Worker I carries out general conservation field work under close supervision by a Field Supervisor and/or Project Manager. The ideal candidate will have a flexible schedule similar to an on call availability. An ideal candidate will also exhibit the values that steer our organization: character, humility, ohana (family/community-mindedness), service, excellence, and nobility. REQUIRED QUA​LIFICATIONS

  • Valid driver's license and a clean driving record
  • Reliable vehicle or other reliable form of transportation
  • Ability to read, write, and understand (English) equipment and product labels for safety
  • Positive attitude and willingness to learn
  • Follow directions while working in small groups or independently
  • Maintain excellent attendance and punctuality
  • Maintain excellent communication, verbal and written (English)
  • Willing and able to perform physically challenging work in harsh conditions for 8-10 hours a day
  • Ability to lift and carry a minimum of 50 pounds
  • Ability to pass a background check and/or gain military base access clearance
  • Ability to camp in remote areas for multiple days at a time and/or travel occasionally

PREFERRED QU​ALIFICATIONS

  • Fence construction experience
  • Tree felling experience
  • Interest in preserving Hawaiis native plants, animals, and ecosystems
  • Familiarity with both native and invasive species identification
  • Familiarity operating power tools such as chainsaws, weed trimmers, etc.
  • State of HawaiÊ»i Pesticide Applicator license
  • Experience operating/working with machinery (excavator, skid steer, etc.)
  • Helicopter (passenger) experience

SCHEDULE

Part-time to start (dependent upon weather, project/crew availability). This position requires a flexible schedule, such as the ability to work 1-2+ weeks at a time, and be down from work for similar times. Building the appropriate crew could lead to full-time work (we have the work, need the crew/leadership ability to run consistently).
