Job Description

The Construction Claims Specialist is responsible for assisting with the avoidance, identification, intake, evaluation, strategy, documentation, monitoring, mitigation, resolution, and litigation support of potential and developed construction claims, while reporting to/working closely with the Construction Claims Manager and Deputy Director Construction Claims, Utility, and Third-Party Contracts. This position requires strong written and oral communication skills, the ability to prioritize and perform multiple assigned tasks with little or no supervision, and a familiarity with construction and/or professional services contract documents and general contract principles.

Specific duties include, but are not limited to: extensive contract/document review, analysis and contract provision interpretation; issue spotting; interfacing with the project management team to acquire the relevant project documentation and facts; drafting chronologies or summaries of events/issues and developing information in support of HART’s position; compiling, organizing, and maintaining all claims working files under multiple contracts and ensuring that all interested parties have appropriate access to such files; monitoring activity of claims and maintaining status records; interfacing with HART’s claims consultants and actively monitoring the claims budget; managing HART’s claims consultants contracts by assessing overall compliance, evaluating invoices, and tracking status; drafting, editing, and finalizing correspondence, task orders, and other claims-related documents; developing reports in Word, Excel, PowerPoint, or other software as required; litigation support; and performing contract amendment and closeout procedures.

 

Requirements:

A combination of education and experience substantially equivalent to a bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university, preferably in business administration, construction management, or a related field, together with two years professional experience with claims, litigation or other legal services, and/or contracts administration, ideally, in a construction context. Preference: Experience on a major public transit construction project.
