Job Description

Position Overview:

The Crew Supervisor serves as Kupu’s primary field leader for trail maintenance crew operations. This position directly supervises Crew Specialists and Crew Members while ensuring safe, efficient, and high-quality work completion. The Crew Supervisor is responsible for day-to-day crew management, mentorship, safety oversight, logistics coordination, and client satisfaction. This position will receive a variety of trainings and certifications such as but not limited to chainsaw, OSHA, sustainable trail management, native plant identification and more. This position is eligible for PTO, health care, and 401k benefits.  

 

Position Goals

  • Lead safe and productive trail maintenance operations
  • Provide mentorship and workforce development support to crew interns
  • Ensure daily work quality meets client and organizational expectations

Essential Functions and Responsibilities:

  • Conduct oneself with aloha and drive Kupu’s culture
  • Conduct oneself with integrity, credibility, professionalism, and commitment to Kupu’s mission
  • Directly supervise Crew Specialists and Crew Members in the field
  • Lead daily trail maintenance operations and ensure worksite safety
  • Conduct daily safety briefings and end-of-day debriefs
  • Serve as the primary driver for Kupu and rental vehicles
  • Monitor and maintain crew tools, equipment, and inventory
  • Collect and submit operational and project data
  • Approve member timesheets and track attendance
  • Address field issues, conflicts, and operational concerns
  • Provide mentorship, coaching, and technical instruction to crew interns
  • Ensure compliance with safety standards, client requirements, and organizational expectations

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Experience in trail maintenance, conservation, landscaping, or related outdoor work
  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Experience supervising teams or leading field operations
  • Ability to work outdoors in varying weather and terrain conditions
  • Valid driver’s license with clean driving record
  • Strong communication and leadership skills

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience mentoring or teaching young adults
  • Knowledge of tool maintenance and field safety procedures
  • CPR/First Aid certification

  • Walk, stand, and hike on uneven, steep, muddy, rocky, and remote terrain for extended periods
  • Lift, carry, push, and pull up to 25 lbs. on a regular basis, and occasionally up to 50 lbs. with or without assistance
  • Work outdoors in varying weather conditions, including heat, humidity, rain, wind, and prolonged sun exposure
  • Work in environments that may include dust, insects, dense vegetation, and other hazards
  • Repetitive use of hands, arms, and shoulders
  • Safely operate hand tools, power tools, and field equipment safely
  • Wear and utilize required personal protective equipment (PPE)
  • Meet and maintain regular, punctual attendance consistent with the ADA, FMLA and other federal, state and local standards
