Job Description

The Direct Support Worker/Instructor provides direct instruction and mentorship to adults with intellectual disabilities in accordance with Lanakila Pacific’s values and program standards; plans and implements daily program activities which will enable each participant to achieve their highest level of independence possible and to live and participate in their communities; assures the quality of service provided is consistent with Lanakila Pacific’s mission and values.  

 
   

 

 
ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:

 

Participant Services:

 

  1. Assists in the development , implementation and maintenance of the TLC (Teaching and Learning Center) course curriculum
  2. Develops, implements and maintains outcome-driven  program activities  to support a healthful and respectful learning environment for all participants and in accordance with each participant’s Individual Service Plan
  3. Ensures all activities are age appropriate, meaningful and  based on the participant’s needs
  4. Provides education and support in self care, including assisting with activities and needs of daily living skills
  5. Develops, implements and maintains  meaningful and outcome-driven community-based-activities
  6. Responsible for maintaining a professional relationship with participants and the circle of support

 

Other Duties:

 

  1. Completes all required paperwork, reports and documentation to ensure participant services are met according to program standards.
  2. Acts as a daily program monitor, as assigned
  3. Acts as liaison between LP and the caregiver/circle of support, as assigned
  4. Meets all training and continuing education requirements
  5. Ensures compliance with all safety and confidentiality standards
  6. Always complies with Lanakila Pacific’s Employee Handbook and Policies and Procedures
  7. Performs other duties as assigned to ensure efficiency of the program
  8. Demonstrate Lanakila Pacific’s values of teamwork, excellence, achievement, motivation and Lanakila in all personal interactions with others.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

 

Education/Experience:

 

  1. High School Diploma or GED
  2. Ability to work with individuals with intellectual disabilities 
  3. Must maintain the following clearances/certification: 
  • annual TB clearance (2 step)
  • current First Aid Certification
  • annual CPR certification
  • annual Criminal Background check
  • annual Child Protective Service check
  •  annual Adult Protective Service check 
  • valid driver’s license and clean driving abstract.

 

Skills/Knowledge/Abilities:<​/strong>

 

  1. Ability to develop and use curriculum and instructional media
  2. Ability to teach  etiquette and social skills to individuals with intellectual disabilities
  3. Ability to utilize community resources for participant instruction and outings
  4. Basic proficiency with MS Office and general computer applications
  5. Ability to plan, organize and meet deadlines.
