Position Summary
The Director of Finance is a senior finance leader responsible for advancing organizational financial health through strategic budgeting, forecasting, grants financial management, and operational financial oversight. Reporting to the Chief Financial Officer (CFO), this position serves as a key partner in translating organizational priorities into effective financial plans, systems, and accountability structures.

The Director of Finance leads financial planning and analysis, grant budgeting and compliance coordination, and cross-departmental financial workflow management to strengthen fiscal stewardship across the organization. This role works collaboratively with program and operational leaders to improve financial literacy, ensure sound financial decision-making, and support sustainable growth across housing, lending, real estate, brokerage, and other mission-driven initiatives. The Director of Finance also partners closely with the Controller to ensure alignment between financial planning, operational execution, and accurate financial reporting.


Reporting Structure

  • Reports directly to the Chief Financial Officer (CFO).
  • Supervises finance staff and contractors as assigned.
  • Collaborates closely with the Controller to ensure alignment between finance operations and accounting accuracy.
  • Works closely with executive leadership, program directors, managers, and operational teams.

Core Responsibilities

  • Oversee organizational financial workflow management and strengthen financial information flow between finance and operational departments.
  • Lead organizational budgeting, forecasting, and financial planning processes in partnership with department leaders and executive leadership.
  • Lead grant financial planning, budget monitoring, reporting coordination, and compliance tracking across programs and funding sources.
  • Develop and implement systems that improve financial accountability, budget adherence, and fiscal stewardship across the organization.
  • Educate and support directors, managers, and program staff on budgeting, grant compliance, financial policies, and fiscal stewardship.
  • Oversee operational tracking and financial performance of loan pools, revolving capital, and lending activities.
  • Oversee finance systems and operational workflows related to brokerage activities, lending programs, and real estate operations.
  • Partner with program and operational leaders to ensure timely submission of timesheets and supporting documentation for grant reporting and reimbursement requests.
  • Support organizational cash flow forecasting and financial performance monitoring.
  • Supervise finance operations staff and collaborate closely with the Controller to ensure accurate financial reporting and compliance.
  • Prepare financial analyses, dashboards, and management reporting to support organizational decision-making.

Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration, or related field required
  • 5-8+ years of finance operations or accounting leadership experience
  • Experience in nonprofit financial operations preferred
  • Experience with real estate finance, housing development, or lending operations preferred
  • Strong financial reporting and budgeting experience

Compensation and Benefits
  • Pay Range: $80,000-$125,000
  • Paid Time Off: Available after six months of employment.
