Lanakila Pacific is a family of programs and services designed to help people with cognitive, physical, social, or age-related challenges, build independence and improve their quality of life. Lanakila Meals on Wheels provides meals and other services to help our participants maintain their health and independence. We are the largest, island-wide provider of home delivered and congregate dining meals and other support services.

 

Position Overview:

The Driver/Packer position is responsible for performing the day-to-day operations of the Home Delivery program including managing inventory; preparing, packing, and transporting meals; onboarding new customers; and providing supervision, training, and support to Home Delivery Volunteers. This includes maintaining service standards, supporting a safe work environment including protecting program data, and managing the available resources. Minimum Qualifications:

Required Education/Experience: 

  • Education: High School diploma or Certificate of Completion or equivalent
  • Experience: 2-years’ experience in direct customer service
Required Clearances/Certifications: 
  • TB clearance
  • First Aid/CPR certification (may obtain on the job)
  • Criminal background check
  • Pre-employment drug test
  • Child/Adult Protective Services checks
  • Fieldprint fingerprinting
  • Department of Health Food Handlers Safety (Obtain on the job)
  • Valid driver's license, clean driving abstract, and access to an insured vehicle

Preferred Experience: 

  • 1-year working in a human services program or direct customer service serving the elderly and/or disabled, 1-year of experience working with volunteers, 1-year of experience driving/making deliveries.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities:

Position-Specific Duties:

  • Responsible for the Home Delivery program’s daily packing and delivery operations. Successfully completes each day’s packing and deliveries to ensure the program is prepared to smoothly operate the next shift(s).
  • Prepares and checks all information needed including daily packing paperwork, labels, route sheets, and volunteer roster.
  • Sets-up and breaks-down packing room or other work areas including tables, racks, carts, delivery bags, supplies, etc.
  • Preps and packs meals and other items for delivery to program customers. Checks bags and verifies route information to ensure accuracy.  Corrects discrepancies immediately.
  • Safely Loads and unloads vehicles. Delivers meals to Shuttle Stops, covers open routes, and makes redeliveries. Follows all traffic laws and drives with aloha.
  • Directs and supports volunteers in the packing and delivery of meals. Provides support and oversight for volunteers in the packing room and to volunteers at Shuttle Stops.
  • Follows safe food standards including maintaining proper food temperatures/temperature checks and quality checks at each stage of outgoing and returning meals. Ensures items arrive at each destination timely and in good condition. Discards meals that are not held at a safe temperature or are damaged.
  • Unpacks and inventories returned items from unsuccessful deliveries.
  • Conducts daily and month-end inventory, including reporting discarded inventory, returned inventory, and discrepancies in the counts to supervisor.

Customer Service:

  • Smiles and greets all volunteers, customers, and caregivers encountered. Maintains a friendly and approachable demeaner when interacting with others.
  • Assists with training, supervising, and supporting volunteers. Ensure volunteers operate within Lanakila’s policies and procedure and meet Lanakila’s service standards.
  • Assists volunteers and customers who have questions or issues with their service and seeks to resolve issues to all parties’ satisfaction. Communicates resolution and documents in program records. Demonstrates and explains procedures and program updates.
  • Ensures volunteers have proper equipment and supplies to successfully complete their duties.
  • Conducts in-home Welcome Visits and follow up home visits for customers. Explains the program and services. Answer questions and address issues with service.
  • Assists with collecting personal information and feedback from customers for program reports, program evaluation, and marketing purposes.
  • Supports volunteer appreciation and recognition.

Other Duties:

  • Provides back-up support for the Lanakila Meals on Wheels administrative staff and special projects/events as needed.
  • Operates in a fiscally responsible way, protecting and safeguarding company assets and eliminating waste and inefficiencies.
  • Ensures projects are delivered on time, within scope and within budget through regular monitoring of outcomes and expenditures, on assigned projects.
  • Serves as a role model for the staff, participants, and volunteers and works to create a healthful and respectful environment.
  • Ensures all safety procedures and practices are followed and enforced throughout the packing and delivery process including safe food handling and sanitation procedures, and that safeguards and proper safety gear, such as gloves, are used when appropriate.
  • Demonstrates a willingness to gain and possess thorough knowledge of Lanakila Pacific’s programs and seeks ongoing educational opportunities related to the position. Completes training and attends meetings as mandated by organizational policy. Performs other related business duties as assigned, including but not limited to program promotion, representing the organization at events, and participating in fundraising activities.

Working Conditions / Hours:

  • Scheduled for work 5 days a week Tuesday through Saturday, 6:30 am – 3:00 pm. Work days/shift may vary. May be required to work outside of normal business hours including weekends and Thanksgiving and Christmas holidays to meet operational needs and contract requirements.
  • Indoors, office setting, production areas including inside walk-in reefer/freezer.
  • Outdoors in various residential, in home, and community settings, travel to provide services, to see employees, distribute meals, outreach, etc., as required.

Equipment Use:

  • Assigned company vehicle for deliveries.
  • Standard delivery equipment including coolers, thermal bags, heated caddies, holding caddies and pushcart.
  • Assigned company cellular telephone.
  • Company vehicle.
