EPIDEMIOLOGICAL SPECIALIST (COMMUNITY HEALTH) Epidemiology and Laboratory Capacity (ELC)

$4,690 - $5,713 per month, salary commensurate w/ training and experience

 

Exempt, Non-Civil Service, Full-Time, Temporary Appointment.  The primary purpose of this position is to perform the full range of community health outreach in support of epidemiological investigational and educational activities related to all infectious diseases for disease outbreak control and surveillance.  The position provides community outreach in conjunction with Branch epidemiologic expertise for statewide surveillance for infectious diseases and certain non-infectious conditions, including neglected diseases (e.g., waterborne, including amoeboid and fungal diseases).  The position works with Branch and Division subject matter experts (SMEs), including epidemiologists, physicians, and health educators, to identify strategies to communicate and works with various cultural groups and identify community intervention and prevention measures to address identified disparities; liaise on behalf of Division with these community groups to facilitate an understanding of investigations, public health response, and provision of culturally appropriate public health education; assist in assessing and training for interviewing persons under investigation and works with SMEs to develop and maintain any related protocols.

 

 

Minimum Qualification(s)

 

EDUCATION:  Must meet education requirements for the Epidemiological Specialist series.  A master’s degree in epidemiology is desirable.

 

EXPERIENCE:  Must meet experience requirements for the class Epidemiological Specialist III.

 

LICENSE:  Valid Hawaii driver’s license preferred.

 

SKILLS/ABILITIES:  The ability to speak any of the following languages is desired:  Chuukese, Marshallese, Kosraen, Samoan, Cebuano, Tongan, Chinese (traditional/simple), Tagalog, Ilocano, Hawaiian.
