EPIDEMIOLOGY AND LABORATORY CAPACITY (ELC)
INFECTION PREVENTION and CONTROL (IPC) PROGRAM SPECIALIST
Up to $4,583 per month, salary commensurate with training and experience
Exempt, non-civil service, full-time, temporary appointment. Healthcare associated infections, including antimicrobial resistant organisms (AR) contribute to a significant amount of mortality and morbidity. The primary purpose of this position is responsible for planning, and developing with the HAI Team, the Statewide Healthcare Associated Infections and Antimicrobial Resistance (HAI/AR) project educational activities, including those included in the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, Project Firstline. CDC’s new infection control training collaborative, Project Firstline, is designed to help every frontline healthcare worker, in all healthcare settings, gain that knowledge and confidence. Projects associated with disease prevention and education of Infection Control Prevention practices will be coordinated by the HAI educational program/project to professionals and nonprofessionals based on upon current infection control practices as stipulated by Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), and Hawaii Revised Statutes (HRS) particular for infectious disease prevention activities.
Minimum Qualifications
EDUCATION: Graduation from an accredited college or university with a bachelor’s degree.
Graduation from an accredited college or university with a master’s degree in a biological science, public health, or a related field is highly desirable. Prior training in infection control is highly desirable.

EXPERIENCE: One and one-half years of progressively responsible professional experience which required a high degree of analytical skill. Such experience must have involved gathering, evaluating and analyzing facts and other pertinent information required to resolve problems and/or to determine and recommend appropriate courses of action. Such experience must have also demonstrated the ability to elicit information orally and in writing; read, comprehend, interpret and evaluate technical subjects, analyses or proposals; and apply problem-solving methods and techniques, such as defining and analyzing problems, identifying alternative courses of action, using judgment in determining appropriate alternatives; and prepare clear an concise written reports and recommendations for action.
LICENSE: Valid driver’s license is preferred.

This position is exempt. Employment in such positions is considered to be “at will.” This is a
12-month appointment, federally funded by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC),
Epidemiology and Laboratory Capacity (ELC) Cooperative Agreement for the budget period beginning August 1, 2021 through July 31, 2022. Continued funding is dependent on successful non-competitive applications prior to each grant year.
