Position Summary
Aloha Tree Alliance (ATA) seeks a dynamic, creative, and mission-driven Education & Communications Manager to lead our youth and community education programs and oversee our communications and digital presence.
This is an ideal role for a passionate environmental educator and communicator who enjoys inspiring the next generation, engaging communities, and sharing ATA’s impact through hands-on learning, events, and compelling social media content.
Reporting to the Executive Director, this position will divide your time between developing and managing ATA’s education programs (50%) and leading our communications strategy (50%). The role requires strong organizational and writing skills, cultural sensitivity to Native Hawaiian values, and comfort working in both indoor and outdoor environments.
Key Responsibilities
Education Programs (50%)
- Develop and manage ATA’s environmental education initiatives for youth and community members.
- Coordinate and deliver classroom (K–12) and field-based learning experiences on the Kuli‘ou‘ou Ridge Trail and at our Native Hawaiian Plant Nursery.
- Create engaging, age-appropriate curriculum (topics may include: forest layers, native plant ID, climate change impacts, water cycle, watershed health).
- Lead ATA’s ‘Āina Allies Internship Program.
- Build and maintain partnerships with schools, educators, and community organizations.
- Manage the education program budget, calendar, and impact reporting.
- Track and report key metrics for grants and board updates.
- Participate in monthly volunteer trail restoration and Aloha Friday Watering events.
- Represent ATA at public events, school fairs, and community outreach opportunities..
Communications & Social Media (50%)
- Lead ATA’s communications strategy to raise awareness of our mission and impact.
- Manage social media channels (Instagram, blog, photography, short-form video) and ensure consistent, compelling content.
- Develop content calendars for social media, newsletters, and annual reports.
- Create flyers, brochures, and promotional materials for events and programs.
- Support public relations efforts, including responding to media inquiries and preparing press releases.
- Assist the Executive Director with special projects and outreach as needed.
Qualifications & Skills
- Bachelor’s degree in Education, Communications, Environmental Studies, or related field.
- Minimum 3 years of professional experience in education, nonprofit outreach, or communications.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills.
- Demonstrated experience managing social media and digital content creation.
- Skilled in Google Workspace, Microsoft Office, Canva, Mailchimp, and Wordpress (or willingness to learn).
- Experience with social media analytics and campaign strategy is a plus.
- Ability to work independently and meet deadlines.
- Exhibits strong project management skills, able to balance multiple priorities.
- Comfortable working outdoors in rugged terrain and varying weather.
- Occasional evening or weekend hours may be required for community events and volunteer workdays.
- Valid driver’s license and insurance.
- Team player who genuinely lives aloha.
