Job Description

The beat includes primarily reporting on Hawaii's public and private schools along with community colleges and universities. The successful candidate will need to stay on top of the education system's biggest issues — from pandemic challenges to test scores, graduation rates, bullying and teacher pay. The reporter must be able to analyze trends, chronicle achievement, and uncover failures. Moreover, this reporter should be able to break news regularly both online and in print. This is a beat that is expected to contribute great enterprise work, and stories should appear on Page 1 on a regular basis. Producing on deadline is critical, but the beat is best covered by successfully managing and balancing breaking news with enterprise reporting.
