Job Title: Elementary School Faculty
Reports to: Assistant Head of School and Head of School
Job Mission: The mission of Wai’alae Elementary Public Charter School’s educational faculty is to facilitate student learning in an environment that immerses learners in Wai’alae’s Vision Elements in order for students to: develop new understandings of how the world works and their place in it; grow in academic skills; and to build personal understanding of their development in Vision Elements.
Vision for the Position:
Elementary School Faculty provide facilitation of student learning for the following outcomes:
- All students:
- …are progressing to their highest potential in reading, writing, and math
- …demonstrate new understandings of important concepts grounded in science and social studies
- …reflect on their personal understanding of their growth in Waialae’s Vision Elements
- Effectively build relationships that support all student learning to their highest potential
- Engage parents to support their child’s education.
- Create learning environments where Essential Terms are visible and authentically practiced
Competencies:
Wai’alae’s faculty must:

Specific Duties:
- Facilitate a world-class elementary level learning experience using best practices, based on experience and research
- Collect and reflect on student data; adjust and advise instruction accordingly
- Communicate effectively, consistently, and frequently with students and their parents about students’ goals and progress, take in feedback and address any questions or concerns directly, positively and in a timely manner
- Set clear expectations and monitor student behavior, as well as respond appropriately and consistently to misbehavior
- Model and foster a culture of respect and learning
- Collaborate effectively to design and facilitate academic units with the grade-level team
- Design assessments for learning congruent with instructional and personalized learning goals
- Determine students’ academic and social emotional learning objectives and ensure that they’re met
- Commit to building a community of child-centered educators by mentoring other educators and making regular contributions to be shared publicly, including curriculum, best practices, research findings, etc.
- Reflect on practices, assess strengths and weaknesses, and access professional development to meet students, grade level and school needs and reach their/its goals.

Qualifications:
- Bachelor's Degree: You must hold a bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university, preferably in education or a related field
- Completion of a State-Approved Teacher Education Program (SATEP)
- Active Hawai’i Teacher Standards Board (HTSB) license in elementary education (K-5)
