DATA SCIENTIST
Epidemiology and Laboratory Capacity (ELC)
Up to $6,833 per month or higher commensurate with training and experience
Â
Exempt, non-civil service, full-time, temporary appointment. The primary purpose of this position is to collect, organize, analyze, and interpret large sets of structured and unstructured data; to build scalable data pipelines, integrate and transform data, and develop models using analytic software and coding skills and tools to detect, prevent, and control infectious diseases and adverse health events in the population.

Minimum Qualifications
Â
EDUCATION: Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university in computer science, health informatics, applied mathematics, statistics, economics, engineering, data science, information science, information systems, information technology, business analytics, or a related field is required.
Â
Master’s degree from an accredited college or university in computer science, health informatics, applied mathematics, statistics, economics, engineering, data science, information science, information systems, information technology, business analytics, public health, or related field is preferred.
Â
EXPERIENCE: At least two years of experience solving business problems with advanced analytical solutions. Demonstrated experience conducting quantitative statistical analysis; building, training, and deploying quantitative models in production environments; and developing scalable data pipelines. Demonstrated experience with statistical software, programming languages, and packages (e.g., R, MATLAB, SAS, Python).

LICENSE: Valid State of Hawaii driver’s license is preferred.

This position is exempt from civil service. Employment in such positions is considered to be “at will.†This position can be up to a 24-month appointment, federally funded by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), Epidemiology and Laboratory Capacity (ELC) Cooperative Agreement for the budget period beginning August 1, 2020 – July 31, 2024. Continuation of this position will be dependent on a successful application for subsequent grant periods.
