HEALTHCARE ASSOCIATED INFECTIONS (HAI) PHYSICIAN

Epidemiology and Laboratory Capacity (ELC)

$10,685 - $16,667 per month, salary commensurate w/ training and experience

 

Exempt, Non-Civil Service, Full-Time, Temporary Appointment.  The position functions to provide oversight of a Statewide Healthcare Associated infections and Antimicrobial Resistance (HAI/AR) Program.  The position serves as the State’s medical HAI/AR expert and infection control consultant for services relating to the prevention, diagnosis and treatment of distribution and determinants of health-related states and events in particular populations as they relate to HAI/AR.  The position will provide medical and technical expert advice regarding HAI/AR, including multi-drug resistant organisms (MDROs), and disease prevention to professionals and nonprofessionals based on current infection control practices as stipulated by Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), and Hawaii Revised Statutes (HRS) particular for infectious disease prevention activities.  The position will supervise a HAI team who provide data for decision-making and for detecting, understanding, controlling, and preventing HAI/AR pathogens in the population, including emerging pathogens of public health concern.

 

 

Minimum Qualification(s)

 

EDUCATION:  Graduation from an accredited school of medicine with a degree of Doctor of Medicine (MD) is required.  In addition to a degree of Doctor of Medicine, a graduate degree in Public Health with an emphasis in Epidemiology is preferred.  Completion of the Epidemic Intelligence Service fellowship at the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention is highly desirable.

 

EXPERIENCE:  Applicant must have two years of post-residency work experience, specifically in public health (e.g., employed in local or state health department or federal public health agency) as an applied infectious disease epidemiologist.  Such experience must have demonstrated the applicant’s knowledge of the philosophy, principles, concepts and practices needed to control of infectious diseases and manage public health programs.

 

LICENSE:  License to practice as a physician in the United States.  Valid Hawaii State Driver’s license preferred.
