Public Health Educator
Epidemiology and Laboratory Capacity (ELC)
Starting at $5,712 per month, salary commensurate w/ training and experience
Exempt, Non-Civil Service, Full-Time, Temporary Appointment. The primary purpose of this position is to develop educational materials, media campaigns, and public-facing presentations related to the prevention of reportable diseases. The Public Health Educator (PHE) initiates the planning, development, management, and evaluation of public health educational programs with a focus on reducing vaccine preventable diseases (VPDs), including COVID-19, and other emerging infectious diseases on the island of Oahu. The PHE is responsible for working with subject matter expert (SME) staff to develop and maintain training protocols. The position responds to public inquiries and coordinates the Department of Health (DOH) and district’s responses to public issues of concern with the assistance of SME and communication/information specialists’ input.
Minimum Qualification(s)
EDUCATION: Graduation from an accredited four (4) year college or university with a bachelor’s degree.
EXPERIENCE: Three years of professional experience in community health education which involved educating the public in the prevention of disease and other unhealthy conditions and working as a consultant to other professionally trained individuals such as physicians, nurses, social workers and teachers.
LICENSE: Hawaii State Drivers’ License preferred. Certified Health Education Specialist (CHES) preferred.
