EPIDEMIOLOGIST

Epidemiology and Laboratory Capacity for Infectious Diseases (ELC)

$6,177 - $7,226 per month, salary commensurate with training and experience

 

Exempt, non-civil service, full/part-time, temporary appointment. The primary purpose of this position is to organize surveillance and investigation data for COVID-19, reportable diseases, and emerging pathogens; analyze surveillance, investigation, and other epidemiologic data; develop data summaries and evidence-based recommendations; and assist in program evaluation and implementation.  This position works with partners and stakeholders to strengthen occupational surveillance and response to detect, prevent, and control adverse health events statewide.


Minimum Qualifications

 

EDUCATION:  Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university is required.  Master’s degree is required from an accredited college or university in Epidemiology, Biostatistics, Public Health or health-related field for which the incumbent completed and passed at least three (3) epidemiological methods courses and at least two (2) statistics courses that included large dataset management and epidemiologic analyses using statistical software or tools.  Additional coursework in data science, analytics, or informatics is preferred.

 

EXPERIENCE:  A minimum of one year of professional work experience conducting analytic epidemiology, public health surveillance, or public health evaluation is preferred.

 

LICENSE:  Valid State of Hawaii driver’s license preferred.

This position is exempt from civil service. Employment in such positions is considered to be “at will.” This position is federally funded by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), Epidemiology and Laboratory Capacity (ELC) Cooperative Agreement for the budget period beginning August 1, 2023 – July 31, 2024. Continuation of this position for an additional 12 months will be dependent on a successful application for subsequent grant periods.
