PUBLIC HEALTH EDUCATOR
Epidemiology and Laboratory Capacity for Infectious Diseases (ELC)
$4,600 - $5,200 per month, salary commensurate with training and experience
Exempt, non-civil service, full-time, temporary appointment. The primary purpose of this position is to develop educational materials, media campaigns, public-facing presentations related to prevention of reportable diseases; responsible for working subject matter expert (SME) staff to develop and maintain training protocols; responds to public inquiries and coordinates DOH and district’s response to public issues of concern with SME and the communication/information specialists’ input.
Minimum Qualifications
EDUCATION: Graduation from an accredited four (4) year college or university with a bachelor’s degree.
EXPERIENCE: Three years of professional experience in community health education which involved educating the public in the prevention of disease and other unhealthy conditions and working as a consultant to other professionally trained individuals such as physicians, nurses, social workers and teachers.
LICENSE: Hawaii State Drivers’ License preferred. Certified Health Education Specialist (CHES) preferred.

This position is exempt from civil service. Employment in such positions is considered to be “at will.” This position can be up to a 24-month appointment, federally funded by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), Epidemiology and Laboratory Capacity (ELC) Cooperative Agreement for the budget period beginning August 1, 2020 – July 31, 2021. Continuation of this position will be dependent on a successful application for subsequent grant periods.
