Conservation Field Technician Oʻahu
Pono Pacific Land Management, LLC was founded with a vision of helping Hawai‘i’s conservation agencies and landowners. Since 2000, we have been providing specialized services to a wide variety of clients in almost every ecosystem in Hawaiʻi, primarily including:
· Native habitat restoration and landscape maintenance
· Invasive species eradication
· Ungulate-proof/predator-proof fence construction
· Predator and ungulate control
· Trail construction & maintenance
We are currently seeking applicants for the Field Technician I position on Oʻahu. A Field Technician I will carry out general conservation field work under close supervision by a Field Supervisor and/or Project Manager. The ideal candidate will be available 24/7 Monday through Friday and have a flexible schedule similar to an “on-call” availability. REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
Valid driver's license and a clean driving record
Reliable vehicle or other reliable form of transportation
Ability to read, write, and understand (English) equipment and product labels for safety
Positive attitude and willingness to learn
Follow directions while working in small groups or independently
Maintain excellent attendance and punctuality
Maintain excellent communication, verbal and written (English)
Willing and able to perform physically challenging work in harsh conditions for 8-10 hours a day
Ability to lift and carry a minimum of 50 pounds over rough terrain
Ability to pass a background check and/or gain military base access clearance
Ability to camp in remote areas for multiple days at a time and/or travel
Possess a device that can regularly send and receive phone calls, text messages, and emails
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
Tree felling experience
Interest in preserving Hawaiʻi’s native plants, animals, and ecosystems
Familiarity with both native and invasive species identification
Familiarity operating power tools such as chainsaws, weed trimmers, etc.
State of Hawaiʻi Pesticide Applicator license
Experience operating/working with machinery (excavator, skid steer, etc.)
Helicopter (passenger) experience
SCHEDULE
· Full-Time (30-40 hours per week, largely dependent upon weather and projects). This position requires a flexible schedule. Needs the ability to work 1-2+ weeks at a time, and be down from work for similar times. Must be able to travel interisland weekly.
