Conservation Field Technician Oahu

 

Pono Pacific Land Management, LLC was founded with a vision of helping Hawaiis conservation agencies and landowners. Since 2000, we have been providing specialized services to a wide variety of clients in almost every ecosystem in Hawaii, primarily including:

  • Native habitat restoration and landscape maintenance
  • Invasive species eradication
  • Ungulate-proof/predator-proof fence construction
  • Predator and ungulate control
  • Trail construction & maintenance

We are currently seeking applicants for the Field Technician I position on Oahu. A Field Technician I will carry out general conservation field work under close supervision by a Field Supervisor and/or Project Manager. The ideal candidate will be available 24/7 Monday through Friday and have a flexible schedule similar to an on call availability. REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Valid driver's license and a clean driving record
  • Reliable vehicle or other reliable form of transportation
  • Ability to read, write, and understand (English) equipment and product labels for safety
  • Positive attitude and willingness to learn
  • Follow directions while working in small groups or independently
  • Maintain excellent attendance and punctuality
  • Maintain excellent communication, verbal and written (English)
  • Willing and able to perform physically challenging work in harsh conditions for 8-10 hours a day
  • Ability to lift and carry a minimum of 50 pounds over rough terrain
  • Ability to pass a background check and/or gain military base access clearance
  • Ability to camp in remote areas for multiple days at a time and/or travel
  • Possess a device that can regularly send and receive phone calls, text messages, and emails

 

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Tree felling experience
  • Interest in preserving Hawaiis native plants, animals, and ecosystems
  • Familiarity with both native and invasive species identification
  • Familiarity operating power tools such as chainsaws, weed trimmers, etc.
  • State of Hawaii Pesticide Applicator license
  • Experience operating/working with machinery (excavator, skid steer, etc.)
  • Helicopter (passenger) experience

 

SCHEDULE

 

Full-Time (30-40 hours per week, largely dependent upon weather and projects). This position requires a flexible schedule. Needs the ability to work 1-2+ weeks at a time, and be down from work for similar times. Must be able to travel interisland weekly.
