Standard Operating Role Description
Position Summary:

The Floor Supervisor is responsible for overseeing daily sales floor operations, leading associates during assigned shifts, and ensuring company standards are consistently maintained. This position serves as the Supervisor-on-Duty (MOD) when assigned and is responsible for customer service excellence, operational execution, cash handling procedures, store presentation, and team direction.


The Floor Supervisor ensures all team members perform their responsibilities in accordance with company policies, procedures, and service expectations while maintaining a safe, organized, and productive work environment.

Reporting Structure

Reports To:

  • Respective Locations Operations Manager
  • Area Manager

Supervises:

  • All Sales Associates/team members and other hourly team members during assigned shifts

 

Primary Responsibilities:

Sales Floor Leadership

The Floor Supervisor is responsible for directing and supporting all associates/team members during their shift.

Responsibilities include:

  • Assigning daily tasks and priorities to associates/team members.
  • Monitoring sales floor coverage and customer traffic.
  • Ensuring associates/team members remain productive and engaged throughout the shift.
  • Providing real-time guidance and support to team members.
  • Leading by example in customer engagement and sales behaviors.
  • Communicating operational updates and management directives to associates.
  • Escalating employee performance concerns to store management when necessary.

 

Customer Experience Standards

The Floor Supervisor is responsible for ensuring every customer receives exceptional service.

Responsibilities include:

  • Greeting customers and creating a welcoming shopping environment.
  • Assisting customers with product selection and styling recommendations.
  • Supporting sales opportunities across clothing, accessories, jewelry, and other merchandise categories.
  • Monitoring customer service interactions and coaching associates/team members in the moment when appropriate.
  • Resolving customer concerns professionally and efficiently.
  • Managing escalated customer service situations when necessary.
  • Ensuring fitting room service standards are consistently maintained.

 

Store Operations

The Floor Supervisor is responsible for maintaining operational excellence throughout the store.

Responsibilities include:

  • Ensuring store cleanliness and organization standards are maintained.
  • Monitoring merchandise presentation and visual merchandising standards.
  • Overseeing replenishment activities and stock recovery.
  • Ensuring promotional displays and marketing materials are properly executed.
  • Monitoring fitting rooms and recovery standards throughout the day.
  • Assisting with inventory counts and inventory-related projects as assigned.
  • Maintaining operational readiness during peak business periods.

 

Opening Procedures

When assigned opening duties, the Floor Supervisor is responsible for:

  • Arriving on time and preparing the store for business.
  • Conducting a walkthrough of the sales floor and stockroom.
  • Verifying store cleanliness and presentation standards.
  • Preparing registers and point-of-sale systems.
  • Reviewing daily sales goals and priorities.
  • Assigning opening responsibilities to associates/team members.
  • Ensuring the store is ready for customers at opening time.

 

Closing Procedures

When assigned closing duties, the Floor Supervisor is responsible for:

  • Directing store recovery and cleaning efforts.
  • Ensuring all customer transactions are completed accurately.
  • Verifying fitting room, sales floor, and stockroom organization.
  • Securing merchandise and sensitive company assets.
  • Completing register reconciliation procedures.
  • Following all company cash handling requirements.
  • Ensuring alarm systems, doors, and security measures are properly activated.
  • Completing all required closing documentation.

 

Cash Handling and Financial Accountability

The Floor Supervisor is entrusted with company funds and is expected to maintain strict compliance with all cash handling procedures.

Responsibilities include:

  • Monitoring register activity and transaction accuracy.
  • Alerting Area Manager or Operations Manager for approval of authorized overrides and operational transactions.
  • Reporting and documenting register discrepancies.
  • Completing register counts according to company procedures.
  • Preparing and verifying cash deposits.
  • Maintaining proper cash security at all times.
  • Reporting any cash handling concerns or irregularities immediately.

 

Safety and Loss Prevention

The Floor Supervisor is responsible for promoting a safe and secure environment.

Responsibilities include:

  • Enforcing company safety procedures.
  • Identifying and correcting safety hazards.
  • Monitoring for suspicious activity and potential theft.
  • Following all loss prevention guidelines.
  • Reporting accidents, injuries, security incidents, and policy violations.
  • Assisting with emergency response procedures when necessary.

 

Communication Standards

The Floor Supervisor must maintain professional communication with customers, associates, and management.

Responsibilities include:

  • Communicating expectations clearly and respectfully.
  • Providing accurate operational updates to management.
