Job Description

Primary Responsibilities:  Under the supervision of the Program Director, provides food and nutritional services to individuals and families impacted by HIV/AIDS; and, assist in maintaining a healthy environment that promotes improved health outcomes, stable housing and safety of participants.

 

Essential Duties:

  • Coordinate all operations at the Food Basket, including setting up, registering clients, serving meals, distributing food bags, breaking down and cleaning up, delivering food to home-bound clients; coordinate an annual volunteer appreciation, Thanksgiving and Christmas dinners. Coordinate educational presentations with pharmaceutical representatives.
  • Order and purchase all food and supplies necessary for smooth operation of Food Basket activities within established budgets; maintain an accurate inventory of all food, toiletries and equipment to minimize spoilage.
  • Maintain documented procedures necessary to ensure safe and consistent operations; establish policies to monitor inventory receipts and disbursements, and ensure that food and toiletries are distributed fairly and in accordance with established policies.
  • Maintain client records (intake, eligibility, consent forms, agreement forms, documents, etc.), progress notes, referrals, correspondences and ensure records and client information is kept confidential.  Knowledge of Department of Health, Ryan White, Hawaii Food Bank and other funder contract requirements (record keeping, deliverables, reports).
  • Volunteer Management: recruit all volunteers (drawn primarily from Food Basket program participants) to assist in Food Basket operations; provide ongoing training and management of volunteers to assist in delivery, food pantry and meal program operations; schedule volunteer activities to ensure adequate coverage for all aspects of the program; plan menus for Food Basket sponsored meals with volunteer support.
  • Establish supportive trusting relationships with people struggling with long-term physical disabilities, substance abuse and severe and persistent mental illness, and provide psychosocial support services and referrals as needed.

 

Other Duties:

  • Assist the Executive Director, Program Director, and other Program staff in their duties as required.
  • Represent Gregory House Programs in the community as requested and maintain good working relations with other agencies and persons providing services and support to people with HIV disease.

Working Conditions:  Indoors and outdoors

Work Hours:  Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday (~7 hours each day)

Equipment Use:  standard office equipment, personal vehicle with valid Hawaii driver’s license.

Physical, Mental, and Communication Demands:  Requires use of discretion and judgment; requires working to established procedures, maintaining reliable work attendance; may require working under minimal supervision; requires verbal communication skills and following oral and written instructions.  Able to lift at least 50 pounds.

Skills/Knowledge:  In addition to meeting the mental, physical, and communication demands listed above, requires knowledge of substance abuse and mentally ill issues and basic Microsoft Office applications.

Education/Experience:  At minimum, an Associate’s degree and 2 years of customer service and/or food service environment and one year working with, or caring for, persons with HIV preferred. Requires ability in conflict resolution.
