Job Description

Quality Assurance Assistant will assist with all aspects of HACCP-based Food Safety Management Program for seafood.   

 

Responsibilities (include but not limited to):

  • Daily collection, collation and timely review of compliance-related documentation.
  • Collect environmental, food contact surface and product samples for laboratory testing.
  • Conduct in-house laboratory assays (tests) for hygiene (ATP), allergens, etc.
  • Collect samples and work with 3rd party laboratories to conduct tests for histamines, bacteria (i.e., APC, coliforms, E coli, Salmonella, Staphylococcus, Listeria, etc.), and contaminants.
  • Review internal control documents to ensure they are being completed accurately and consistently.
  • Monitoring of workplace and Food Safety/Quality Programs for effectiveness.
  • Assist with audit preparations (i.e., Food Safety, Social Responsibility, plant safety, etc.).
  • Assist in the development, maintenance, and continuous improvement of Food Safety and Quality Programs that meet and/or exceed standards set by federal agencies (FDA, NOAA, HIDOH, etc.) and 3rd party standard-bearers (SQF, BRC, etc.).
  • Assist in the development and execution of employee training programs.
  • Assist in working with suppliers and customers on food safety and quality-related issues including product specifications, inspections, and problem resolution.

Schedule:  The typical work schedule will include an 8-hour shift or part-time. Flexible scheduling including early mornings, late evenings, and weekends will periodically be required to enable interaction with all plant/processing and audit teams. 

 

Work Environment:  Work will be performed in an air-conditioned office, in chilled food storage areas with artificial lighting, or in outdoor areas. Temperatures in the processing environments are typically 32-38F degrees and in the freezer down to 0F. Appropriate attire must be worn at all times when working in areas where fresh fish and seafood are being handled.
