Lanakila Kitchen is Lanakila Pacific’s food service division which includes Lanakila Kitchen’s contract and catering services, the Hickam Hale Aina Dining Facility, and other food related projects and services. 

 

POSITION OVERVIEW: 

Our team of Food Service Workers is responsible for safely performing food service duties at Lanakila Kitchen on Oahu.  Food service workers assist in preparing and serving meals, participate in the training program and assume general cleaning responsibilities. Our Food Service Workers support the mission, vision and values of the organization, and uphold and enforce the guidelines and policies of the organization and demonstrate Lanakila Pacific’s values of teamwork, excellence, achievement and motivation in all personal interactions and exemplify Lanakila’s STAR service standards.   

 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBLITIES: 

Position Specific Duties 

  • Work under the supervision of the Lead Trainer & Supervisor and Kitchen Supervisor, and other staff in Food Service production. 
  • Assist with meal preparations – cleaning, cutting and/or peeling vegetables and/or fruits, cutting meat, opening canned goods etc. 
  • Participate in training or demonstration to others on how to complete tasks meeting Food Service quality and sanitation standards. 
  • Clean utensils, pots and pan and cooking equipment at regular intervals meeting Food Service sanitation standard. 
  • Clean the kitchen floor, counters and surrounding area meeting Food Service sanitation standard. 

 

OTHER DUTIES 

  • Follows all sanitation and safety procedures and practices, and that safeguards and proper safety gear, i.e., gloves while operating sharp equipment and hairnets are used when appropriate. 
  • Follows established work rules, standards of conduct, policies, procedures and practices. 
  • Performs other related business duties as assigned such as clean and maintain assigned equipment and notify supervisor of equipment and facilities needing repair or replacement. 
  • Completes training as mandated by organizational policy.  

WORKING CONDITIONS/HOURS: 

  • Scheduled to work 5 days a week.  Monday through Friday, 6:00 am. to 2:00 pm. 8-hour shift may vary. May be required to work outside of normal business hours, including weekends and holidays, to meet operational needs and contract requirements.  
  • Works under a fast-paced environment 
  • Works with diverse group of people. 
  • Indoor – kitchen environment; steam and heat from cooking and dish washing often cause uncomfortably high temperatures.  The area is usually noisy, floors may be damp/wet where food or beverages have been dripped or wet from daily mopping that is usually performed while the workers are in the area.   
  • Some workers may be subjected to getting wet while using steam/pressure-washing equipment.  Some workers are exposed to extreme temperatures of the hot kitchen and the walk-in refrigerator or freezer.  Will be exposed to weather outside weather conditions including heat, rain and humidity. 

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: 

Required 

  • Clearance/Certification: 1) TB clearance, 2) Criminal background check, 3) Pre-employment drug testing, 4) Child Protective Services/Adult Protective check. 

Preferred 

  • Education: High School diploma or Certificate of Completion or equivalent 
  • Experience: Minimum 2 months vocational training in food service.
