Groundskeeper: Ground Maintenance – Department of Hawaiian Home Lands

 

Responsibilities:

·         Maintain the appearance and cleanliness of the grounds, gardens, and landscapes

·         Perform lawn care tasks such as mowing, edging, and trimming - Operates weed whackers, hedge trimmers, chain saws, tree chain saws, rakes, hoe, shovel, pick, pressure washer, leaf blowers, etc. - Remove weeds, leaves, and debris from the grounds -Planting of tree’s, shrubs, and grass

·         Must use all safety equipment at all times

 

Minimum Qualifications:

·         Able to maintain confidentiality of NEI work practices.

·         Able to recognize and produce quality grounds maintenance.

·         Able to operate commercial grade gas powered equipment

·         Able to distinguish different types of chemicals, fuels, oils and solutions

·         Able to interact and cooperate with co-workers and work as a team.

• Able to listen well and consistently follow through with instructions and tasks until completion.

·         Able to work independently, as required.

·         Able to perform work assignments systematically, neatly, or in sequential order.

·         Able to evaluate, observe and make sound decisions.

·         Able to practices safe work habits.

·         Able to comply with NEI’s policies and procedures.

·         Skilled in working effectively with hands.

·         Good coordination.

• Able to understand and comply with proper disposal of waste.

·         Physical stamina to perform manual labor in various weather conditions

·         Must be comfortable with working with Individuals who may have disabilities (US AbilityOne / SourceAmerica project site).

·         Be able to communicate and ask questions

·         Be able to follow specific directions

 

Physical Demands:

·         Occasionally lifts and carries up to 25 pounds.

·         Continuous standing, balancing, walking, reaching, lifting, grabbing, holding.

·         Continuous use of weed whackers, hedge trimmers, leaf blowers.

·         Occasional use of chain saws, pole chain saws, and pressure washer.

·         Continuous uses of corrected vision, depth perception, color vision, wide

·         range vision.

·         No running.

·         Frequent guiding, pushing and pulling of equipment and tools.

·         Able to withstand 15 pounds shoulder weight of leaf blower.

 

Status / Days / Hours

·         Status: Full-time and Part-time shifts

·         Primary Days: Monday thru Friday

·         Time: 6:30 am to 3:00 pm (includes one-half hour, unpaid meal break)

·         Occasional Saturdays & Sundays 6:30 am to 3:00 pm (includes one-half hour, unpaid meal break)

·         Flexible, extended work hours and days including weekends and holidays, as needed

 

Clothing and Transportation:

·         NEi will provide T-shirt and safety equipment

·         Employee must provide long pants and steel toe shoes (NEi reimburse up to $50 when employee purchase steel toe shoes with receipt)

 

Salary Range:

·         $12 to $16 per hour

·         Medical & Dental coverage*

Paid Federal and State Holidays, Sick Leave and Vacation after 1 year of continuous employment. *
