                                                                      HR Coordinator

                                                            POSITION DESCRIPTION

 

Established in 2007 as a Honolulu-based 501(c)3 non-profit, Kupu empowers future generations to create a more sustainable Hawai‘i. The organization provides hands-on training and national service programs that educate and mentor youth to become stewards of culture and environment. Kupu has provided opportunities which have trained more than 4,000 young adults and emerging professionals in conservation, sustainability, and environmental education. These young adults have supported Kupu partners to provide more than 3 million hours of service, which has culminated in planting over 1 million native plants and removing over 100,000 acres of invasive species. For their service, Kupu has presented $5.5 million in education awards to support the continued growth of its members. To date, Kupu has generated more than $130 million in economic benefits to the state of Hawai‘i.

Program/Depar​tment Goals

Kupu’s HR team strives to support the company’s mission by developing and promoting systems, policies, and practices in alignment with the organization’s mission, values and strategy. The HR team provides a crucial support to staff through administration of a wide range of HR functions in service to internal departments, programs and stakeholders.

 

Position Overview

The HR Coordinator aids with and facilitates the human resource processes in support of the organization and its programs. Such processes include but are not limited to recruitment, onboarding, orientation, training, compliance, policy management, employee engagement, program participant relations, etc. This role provides a wide range of general support throughout the organization as detailed in the body of the position description.

Location: Honolulu, HI

Reports to: Assistant HR Manager

 

Position Duties

Primary duties for the HR Coordinator position includes, but is not limited to, the following:

 

Staff Recruitment & Selection:

·        Assists in the development of job descriptions

·        Job posting and sourcing to relevant job boards and resources

·        Manages correspondence with perspective candidates

·        Screens incoming applications

·        Partners with HR team to develop selection material

·        Coordinates & administers phone screens & interviews

Staff onboarding & training

·        Collects and submits relevant onboarding requirements

·        Coordinates internal onboarding for new staff

·        Administers new hire orientation & relevant trainings

·        Administers relevant trainings for Kupu staff

Program Support

·        Partners with program staff in the development, administration, and enforcement of program policies and procedures

·        Partners with program staff in resolving HR sensitive incidents

·        Provides guidance to programs on wide range of HR related areas (i.e Compliance, training, program participant management, safety, etc.)

Employee Support

·        Performs customer service functions by answering employee requests and questions

·        Files documents into appropriate employee files

Employee Engagement and Organizational Development

·        Collaborates with HR department ensuring alignment of internal HR systems with organizational goals

·        Partners with HR team to coordinate and manage internal Performance Evaluation system

·        Partners with HR team to develop staff engagement initiatives

·        Conducts audits of HR programs and recommends corrective action and plans for improvement

·        Other duties as assigned

Candidates must meet the requirements below in order to be considered for the position:

·        Excellent verbal and written communication skills

·        Excellent interpersonal and customer service skills

·        Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail

·        Working understanding of human resource principles, practices and procedures

·        Excellent time management skills with a proven ability to meet deadlines

·        Ability to function well in a high-paced and at times stressful environment

·        Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite and related software

·        Associate’s degree or higher in human resources or related field and/or equivalent experience
