Remote Helpline Advocate
Hawaiʻi (Remote) | Full-Time | Non-Exempt

We are seeking a compassionate, skilled, and mission-driven Remote Helpline Advocate to provide crisis intervention, short-term advocacy, and vital support to individuals experiencing intimate partner abuse—all from a secure home-based work environment.
About the Role
As a Remote Helpline Advocate, you will respond to callers seeking safety, information, and resources related to domestic violence. You will provide trauma-informed crisis counseling, conduct safety and lethality assessments, and offer short-term advocacy services to a caseload of approximately 20–25 clients. This position requires strong assessment skills, emotional resilience, technical proficiency, and the ability to work independently while remaining closely connected to a collaborative team. Maintaining strict confidentiality and professionalism in a remote setting is essential.

Key Responsibilities
- Provide scheduled helpline coverage and respond to incoming crisis calls
- Establish non-judgmental, trauma-informed dialogue that fosters trust and safety
- Conduct needs, safety, risk, and lethality assessments
- Engage callers in safety planning and provide crisis counseling
- Provide accurate information regarding DVAC services, community resources, and legal options (including Temporary Restraining Orders and related remedies)
- Offer short-term advocacy services, including follow-up support and referrals
- Assess for primary aggressor and readiness for change when appropriate
- Facilitate referrals to long-term advocacy, legal services, or other DVAC programs when needed
- Maintain accurate and timely documentation in the agency database
- Preserve client confidentiality and adhere to all agency ethical standards
- Collaborate virtually with DVAC staff, advocates, and legal team members
- Track and submit required service statistics
- Attend at least four relevant professional development trainings annually
- Provide culturally responsive services with attention to language access needs
- Perform other duties as assigned
Additional Remote Work Expectations
- Maintain a confidential, distraction-free workspace at all times
- Use agency-provided systems in compliance with data security standards
- Be available via phone, email, and messaging platforms during scheduled work hours
- Participate in virtual team meetings, case reviews, and supervision
- Manage crisis situations independently while working remotely, accessing supervisory support as needed
- Maintain reliable high-speed internet and proficiency with remote tools (phone systems, video conferencing, case management databases, Microsoft Office or similar platforms)
Minimum Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree or at least one year of experience working with domestic violence clients, crisis counseling, or related services
- Knowledge of domestic violence law and community resources
- Working knowledge of criminal and civil justice systems
- Strong written and verbal communication skills
- Excellent problem-solving and organizational abilities
- Ability to multi-task and work collaboratively in a remote team environment
- Access to reliable high-speed internet and a secure private workspace suitable for confidential client communication
