POSITION NAME:  High School English Teacher   

DEPARTMENT/GRADE LEVEL:

High School

REPORTS TO:  High School Dean

EFFECTIVE DATE:  08-01-2026

CLASSIFICATION:  Exempt

 

GENERAL STATEMENT OF DUTIES:  The teacher collaborates in the effective operation of a Catholic education program by supporting the goals and spirit of Catholic education in general and the school programs in particular; ensuring an effective instructional program; continuing in professional growth; encouraging student educational growth.

  2. Deliver engaging, student-centered instruction in English Language Arts for high school students, which may include literature, composition, grammar, rhetoric, and research skills as well as teaching Advanced Placement English.
  3. Design and implement assessments that support mastery through project-based and authentic learning experiences.
  4. Differentiate instruction to support diverse learners, including those with varied academic needs and learning differences.
  5. Foster a collaborative, inclusive classroom environment that promotes curiosity and critical thinking.
  6. Provide academic support outside of class and maintain open communication with students and families.
  7. Collaborate with colleagues to enhance instructional practices and engage in ongoing professional development.
  8. Fulfill assigned supervision duties and contribute to a safe, respectful school environment.

QUALIFICATIONS

 

  • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university required; Master’s degree preferred, with 3–5 years of teaching experience in a school setting.
  • Demonstrated experience teaching English and Literature in a high school environment. Experience with AP English Language & Composition, preferred.
  • Knowledge of effective instructional methodologies for high school learners
  • Ability to plan and implement an English curriculum that ensures academic rigor and differentiated instruction

 

 

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is required to stand, walk, talk, reach, sit, hear, handle, and perform repetitive motions of the hands/wrists.  Teachers must be able to stand and/or sit for extended periods.  May need to climb stairs and lift, carry, push and/or pull items up to 25 pounds.  Must be able to respond effectively to, and lead the class in  emergency situations.

 

WORKING ENVIRONMENT

Work is usually performed in a classroom setting within the time frame established by the High School Dean. Employee is occasionally required to attend evening meetings and may oversee special events. 

 

SUPERVISION

Exercises working supervision over students, Educational Assistants and volunteers, as necessary.
