Job Description

The Housekeeper is cross-trained.  This position is a flexible position that will be assigned to various departments by management to perform various jobs.  During the time of operational needs, you may be assigned to another department. 

 

JOB FUNCTIONS

The Housekeeper is responsible for maintaining a clean, sanitary, and safe environment for residents, staff, and visitors in a long-term care facility. This role ensures that resident rooms, common areas, and workspaces are cleaned and maintained according to infection control, safety, and union guidelines while contributing to a comfortable and home-like atmosphere.

 

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Clean all rooms, bedrooms and hallways
    • Vacuums, sweeps and mops floor
    • Wipes and washes down walls as needed
    • Dusts and polishes furniture
    • Empties waste cans – lines cans with plastic liner
    • Arrange flowers and changes water for arrangements
    • Keeping windows clean
    • Washes curtains as needed
  • Clean toilets and showers
    • Scrubs and disinfects
    • Replaces toilet tissue, paper towels, soap and other supplies
    • Checks drains, lights and reports all needed repairs to maintenance department
  • Cleans all office areas, staff lounge, activities building, patios and lanais.
  • Vacuums and clean recreation rooms – checking furniture, lights, tables, etc.  Reports any repairs to be made to maintenance department.  
  • Cleans wheelchairs and fans at least once a month
  • First floor:
    • Cleans outside entrance and lanai including windowsills as well as furniture.  Straighten book tables, etc.
    • (Tuesday) will wipe beds down before Certified Nurse Aide changes linens.  Cleans all dressers.
    • Cleans the windows, screens and sills of all the rooms, including recreation room and dining room – including walls and dining room
    • As needed, cleans elevator, transoms above doors and utility and linen rooms
    • Thoroughly cleans the dispensary – including defrosting the refrigerator
  • Second Floor:
    • Cleans windows, screens and sills.  Be sure the furniture is polished and rooms are left neat
    • (Wednesday) wipes bed down before Certified Nurse Aide changes linens
    • Cleans and straightens the linen and storage rooms
  • Performs other assigned duties.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATION

  • High School or equivalent
  • Ability to follow oral and written instructions in English
  • Ability to lift, push, carry, pull up to 70 pounds
  • Ability to stand, kneel, bend for extended periods
  • Annual Physical and TB Clearance two-step 
  • CPR/First Aid Certification
  • Willingness to work weekends and/or holidays

 

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Experience working in healthcare or senior care
  • Knowledge of infection control protocols in a healthcare setting


As needed to assist: Laundry

  • Equipment operated: Clothes washers, dryers, clothes carts, janitorial cleaning equipment, iron and ironing board, other related equipment.
  • Daily duties: receive soiled laundry and separate by category, washes all items using procedures and supplies appropriate for each category.
  • Dries clothing.
  • Folds clothing, separates by resident and category.
  • Delivers clothing to proper location and stores correctly.
  • Sanitizes laundry equipment and laundry room daily, including removal of lint.

*There may be other maintenance/janitorial duties not specifically listed above that may be asked of the candidate.
