Job Description

The Front Of House Shift Leader primary position must display responsibility, dependability, and respect towards others in their department. A Shift Leader will be actively working the floor, interacting with customers and employees while also having limited administrative responsibilities which will need approval from a supervisor. The position is expected to know how to expedite food, delegate tasks to employees, and provide leadership to everyone working.



  1. Report to General Manager and to Front of House Supervisor beginning of each shift to determine duties.

  2. Implementation of policies and procedures of restaurant standards at all times.

  3. Creating and completing daily tasks and delegate tasks to other coworkers in absence of supervisor.

  4. Ensure quality of food and customer service is meeting or surpassing company expectations.

  5. Communication with kitchen staff of problematic situations and formulate a solution.

  6. Exerts oneself to improve service performance, striving to lead as an example for guest and fellow employees.

  7. Communicate with kitchen staff to check the quantity of low stock items prior service rush.



  1. Accurately load tip amount into the POS system while charging correct customer.

  2. Initiate refund process, discounts, coupons, etc.

  3. Notify customers of food menu items that are out of stock.

  4. Answer questions, handle complaints, concerns, and problems of guests within appropriate guidelines, seeking additional assistance from Supervisor as necessary. 

Food Runner:

  1. Expedite customer orders to ensure quality and consistency.

  2. Obtain feedback on food quality and service levels from guest interactions.

  3. Take corrective action in replenishing the amount of pastries, drinks, and materials after examination.

  4. Report daily count of pastries and bread products to Supervisor or General Manager.

Other Duties:

  1. Ensure all employees are properly equipped with supplies and uniform for appropriate job.

  2. Communicate to the front of house and back of house employees in all issues regarding service levels, quantity levels, and food quality.

  3. Ensure compliance with all local, state, and federal laws.

  4. Enforce sanitation practices for food handling and overall cleanliness.

  5. Able to train staff efficiently and have employees follow daily operation guidelines.

  6. Independently follow procedures for opening and closing shifts.



  1. Dishwashing - Wash dishes using the three compartment sink, air dry, and put dishes away to appropriate areas. 

  2. Dispensing trash - Removal of trash to dumpster when trash bins are full, and re-lines trash bin with new trash bag

  3. Wiping dining area, equipment, and stations - Keeps areas clean from food marks, dust, and dirt. 

  4. Floor cleaning - Consistently sweeps floors to be free of food & trash. Mops/scrubs floors as part of closing shift or when needed. 

  5. Sanitation - Keeps food and stations in appropriate guidelines to reduce foodborne illnesses or cross contamination.





  1. High school diploma or general education degree (GED); or one to three months related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.

  2. 2 Years food service experience.

  3. Must possess satisfactory skills and knowledge of Cashier/Food Runner position.


Physical Requirements:


  1. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand; walk; use hands to finger, handle, or feel; talk or hear and taste or smell.

  2. The employee is frequently required to reach with hands and arms. 

  3. The employee is occasionally required to climb or balance and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. 

  4. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds. 

  5. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus

  6. Must be able to handle a loud work environment.

  7. Must be able to work in close proximity with other employees.
