Regular, Full-Time, RCUH Non-Civil Service position with the National Astronomical Observatory of Japan (NAOJ), Subaru Telescope Project, located in Hilo, Hawai‘i. Continuation of employment is dependent upon program/operational needs, satisfactory work performance, availability of funds, and compliance with applicable Federal/Statelaws.
MONTHLY SALARY RANGE: $3,102 - $3,169/Mon.
DUTIES: Provides administrative services for the administration staff of the National Astronomical Observatory of Japan (NAOJ) office, as well as the research, engineering, and technical staff. This includes support service to the accounting section, which requires some knowledge of the Japanese Government accounting system. Composes correspondence, translates various administrative materials from Japanese to English or vice versa, types various technical/non-technical documents and office notices, reviews these documents for correct grammar, spelling, format, etc.
PRIMARY QUALIFICATIONS:
EDUCATION
Associate’s Degree from an accredited community college in Secretarial Science or related field. (Two to three (2-3) years of successful work experience as part of an administrative support staff may substitute for the Associate’s Degree).
EXPERIENCE
One to three (1-3) years of secretarial or administrative work experience with Japanese or United States business or governmental entity. Experience using any type of information management tools for multiple users.
KNOWLEDGE
Knowledge of American business practices,common office equipment, and personal computer software. Some knowledge of the Japanese Government accountingsystem.
ABILITIES & SKILLS
Proficiency in speaking, reading, and writing Japanese. Good communication skills, both orally and in writing. Ability to carry out varied range of secretarial functions. Ability to organize and manage any form of information including, but not limited to, accounting and general affair units. Strong will/mindset to make written/paper-based communication more efficient. Must possess a valid driver’s license (and if use of personal vehicle on the jobisrequired,mustalsohavevalidpersonaldriver’s insurance equivalent to Hawai‘i’s No-Fault Driver’s Insurance) and maintain throughout the duration of employment.

SECONDARY QUALIFICATIONS:
