Job Description

Lanakila Pacific (LP) is a family of programs and services designed to help people with cognitive, physical, social, or age-related challenges, build independence, and improve their quality of life. Disability Services include programs and initiatives for mission advancement that are funded through multiple contracts with the Hawaii State Department of Health, Department of Human Services, Division of Vocational Rehabilitation, and private sources. Disability Services collaborates with LP Social Enterprises and LP Senior Services with an emphasis on employment training and placement, a core service of the agency. 

 

POSITION OVERVIEW: 

The Job Coach Aide assists individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities to meet their vocational goals in accordance with Lanakila Pacific’s values and program standards. Through structured intervention techniques, the Job Coach Aide provides assistance to people with disabilities in learning to perform job tasks to the employer's specifications and to learn employment-related soft skills. The Job Coach Aide provides  coaching of soft and hard skills in classrooms and community-based services. In addition to job-site training, the Job Coach Aide assists in building social support, travel training, and the development of natural supports needed to maintain employment. The Job Coach Aide works collaboratively with the Employment Specialists’ and Job Coaches    to support the mission, vision, and values of the organization, uphold, and enforce the guidelines and policies of the organization, and demonstrate Lanakila Pacific’s values of teamwork, excellence, achievement, and motivation in all personal interactions and exemplifies Lanakila Pacific’s STAR service standards. 

 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES: 

Position Specific Duties:  

Work Skills Instruction and Coaching 

  • Observes and assists in the coaching of participants in both workplace and classroom environments. 
  • Implements curriculum to develop social, life, and technical work skills by assisting in group classes or one-on-one coaching with goals outlined in the individual’s employment plan. 
  • Demonstrates and teaches workplace expectations. 
  • Understands the essential job tasks and assists with implementing coaching tailored to participants’ learning styles and abilities. 
  • Identifies participants' strengths to deliver person-centered employment services. 

Employment and Resource Navigation 

  • Works with Employment Specialist(s) to execute employment plans that fit the individual’s aptitudes, education level, physical abilities, interests, priorities, and career goals. 
  • Assists clients in overcoming employment barriers and pursuing personal and career-related goals. 
  • Provides Employment Specialist(s) feedback from direct observation of on-the-job performance to identify workplace accommodations and job coaching needs for people with disabilities. 

Administration 

  • Communicates effectively with all clients, Lanakila Pacific’s programs/departments, and staff, both orally and in writing. Reads and understands written material and writes effectively to meet the job requirements. 
  • Communicates with Lanakila Pacific Employment Services staff orally and in writing to coordinate service delivery with client support systems, referral sources, and employer partners. 
  • Assists with documentation of services provided and progression towards employment goals and objectives. 

Other Duties:  

  • Demonstrates cultural competency and the ability to interact effectively with people of different cultures, socio-economic backgrounds, and cognitive abilities without bias. 
  • Ensures all safety procedures and practices are followed and enforced, and that safeguards and proper safety gear, such as gloves, are used when appropriate.  
  • Demonstrates the ability to work with confidential information and comply with established policies, procedures, and practices. 
  • Demonstrates a willingness to gain and possess thorough knowledge of Lanakila Pacific’s programs and seeks ongoing educational opportunities related to the position. 
  • Performs other reasonably related business duties as assigned. 

Completes training as mandated by organizational policy. 

WORKING CONDITIONS/HOURS: 

  • Scheduled to work 5 days a week. Monday to Friday, 7:30 am - 4:30 pm. 8-hour shift may vary. May be required to work outside of normal business hours including weekends and holidays to meet operational needs and contract requirements.  
  • Indoor, office setting, outdoors; travel to other program sites, meeting sites, etc., as required with staff assistance. 

EQUIPMENT USE:  

  • Basic level proficiency in MS Word, Excel, Outlook, Database, or comparable programs or other comparable programs 
  • Other standard office equipment such as computer, laptop, copy machine, printer, fax machine, projector, etc.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: 

Required: 

  • Education: High School Diploma 
  • Clearance/Certification: Must maintain the following clearances/certification: 1) annual TB clearance, 2) current First Aid and CPR Certification (Obtain on the job), 3) Criminal Background check, 4) Pre-employment drug testing, 5) Child Protective Service check and Adult Protective Service check, 6) Fieldprint Fingerprinting, 7) List of Excluded Individuals and Entities (LEIE).  

Preferred: 

  • One year of work experience teaching, coaching, facilitating, or working with individuals with various disabilities or similar populations.  
  • Education: Associate degree, preferably in psychology, social or human services, education, or another field from an accredited college or university
