Job Title: Jr Systems Administrator

Job Status: Full-Time, FLSA Exempt

Work Hours: 

  • Thursday: 8:00 am – 5:00 pm 
  • Friday: 12:00pm – 9:00pm 
  • Saturday: 12:00pm – 9:00pm 
  • Sunday: 9:00 am – 6:00 pm 
  • Monday: 8:00 am – 5:00 pm

Job Summary: 

Under the general direction of the Systems Administrator, the Junior Systems Administrator is responsible for a broad range of day-to-day operations of the Information Technology (IT) department. These include assisting the Systems Administrator with software packages deployments, reviewing security logs, network security enforcement, hardware and software upgrades, user management, and end user protection for servers and all end user devices. 


Minimum Qualifications: 

  • A Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science or related field or at least two years of comprehensive related experience. Equivalent combination of education and experience also accepted.
  • Strong Knowledge of Windows Servers, Active Directory Management, and Microsoft 365 Management.
  • Familiarity with Power Shell, Windows scripting languages, and SQL servers.
  • Must be able to quickly troubleshoot, test, and provide multiple solutions to complex problems.
  • Ability to quickly learn new hardware/software and provide support.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills, able to work with diplomacy and tact while maintaining confidentiality.
  • Ability to work independently and as a team.
  • Adaptable to needs of staff.
  • Flexible to policy changes and needs.
  • Must be able to respond to system outages during off-hours.

Desired Qualifications:

  • Experience in museum environment or nonprofit organization with multiple sites and varying degrees of need.
  • Experience with central management and configuration of Windows Desktops, MDM management solutions, and AV/Ransomware solutions.
  • Familiarity with APIs, Microsoft Hyper V, PoS (Point of Sale) Software, and Ticketing and CRM (Customer Relationship Management) software.
  • Experience using SQL SSMS and writing SQL SSRS Reports.
  • Understanding of the Honolulu Museum of Art’s established identity and dedication to advancing it.
  • Exceptional ability to manage and lead people.
  • Intelligent self-starter who is committed to the museum’s mission.

  • Interest in assessing and utilizing technology for improved efficiencies and processes.

Essential Duties:

  • Assists the Systems Administrator in overseeing the museum’s servers by maintaining and troubleshooting the server hardware and software. 
  • Reviews security and error logs and reports to the Systems Administrator. 
  • Enforces network Terms of Use policy
  • Monitors for and detects spyware, malware, and viruses to isolate and remove them from the network.
  • Oversees client software deployment tools and policies. 
  • Oversees MDM software suite and policies. 
  • Assists with helpdesk tickets.
  • Assists Helpdesk Technicians with procedure and policy enforcement.
  • Works to streamline and automate day-to-day tasks as appropriate.  
  • Other duties as assigned.

Working Conditions and Atmosphere:

The Junior Systems Administrator works with minimum supervision. Work will often be performed with short deadlines and situations sensitive to the Museum. Regular office hours are required. Due to the nature of the responsibilities, evening and weekend work is sometimes required, and at times may be on an emergency basis.
